JSA Contribution based

I am currently in receipt of JSA contribution based and have been for 5 nearly 6 months. I am considering taking a 2 month temp job but wondered what would happen if I needed to claim again? Because I have already claimed for 5 months, would this be taken into consideration or would it be considered a brand new claim?

Ask at the Jobcentre - either phone them up or ask the next time you go to sign on.
If you are considering taking a temporary job, surely you should just take the job because that's what you are supposed to be doing - looking for work with the idea that you do take it rather than receiving JSA.
If the job ended after 2 months and you didn't have another lined up, if you didn't qualify for contribution-based JSA you could apply for income-based JSA.
On the positive side, with the further 2-months and work experience which is also then "recent", you should find it easier to get the next job/assignment. It is meant to be easier to find work when you are in work.0 -
Hey Big, If you sign off for more than 12 weeks, it may be possible that you might be entitled to another 6months of JSA Cont, as new tax years would be used for your assessment.0

If you claim within 13 weeks, then it will link in to your existing claim and you will only get what is left. If you claim after 13 weeks, then you may get another 26 weeks, it depends on whether your national insurance contributions are high enough to qualify you. They look at the last 2 complete tax years before the benefit year in which you claim, so, if you claim any time this year, then your national insurance contributions checked will be for the tax years 2004/5 and 2005/6. In order to look at this year's national insurance records (up until April 2007) then you have to make your claim after 1 January next year.0
