OK, I'm in panic mode. We've just booked a holiday to Cuba. And we leave on Tuesday!

What part? Went to Jibacoa. As suggested, I took things for the locals as stuff there was so expensive. When I gave the barman a very large packet of peanuts, you would think that he'd won the lottery. (A very small bag was about £6 and his wages were £28 per month:eek::eek::eek::eek:) Such a friendly place and, if you want to, can get off the beaten track. Have a lovely time. Just watch out for the 'case grabbers' at the airport. They look like official handlers but are not. When you get to your coach, they demand about £10 per case. Saw so many people just hand the money over.:eek::eek:

Please remember to take a thermal cup (large with lid). Most drink measures are small, so if you want a larger glass of wine to sip in your room whilst having a chill or as a nightcap), it is easier to get the bar person to fill your mug then keep going back and forth!;)
    Ditto for coffee.

I know what you mean, but the guide books are handy for ideas and maps. You have to buy a map at the airport at a cost of £20, you can't get them anywhere else.:eek:

Are transfers included? as the only way to get to and from the airport is official taxis at a cost of about £20/£25:eek:

Without the guidebook I'd never have found the statue of John Lennon sitting on a bench in a park, or the bust of Lenin at a Soviet Museum (closed, but I climbed over the fences;))

Bank cards don't work over there, take cash and change it at the airport.

Everyday things we take for granted (soap, deodorant, sanitary towels etc etc) are either hard to come by or out of reach cost wise from ordinary cubans so my guide book suggests these as gifts for housekeeping staff etc etc.

Especially female 'products' (tampax are really expensive), paracetamol, sweets, peanuts, shampoo/conditioner (usually free in your hotel but staff are not allowed to take these ones home, so take these daily and give to someone outside of the resort), chewing gum - I actually sent a bumper parcel of these over to the maid for her son as it was almost impossible to buy it.

Mine too. That was really quick. Haven't caught up yet so don't know if the butter is still glitching. Just asked O/H to get some to see but he's not the most reliable person, :rotfl:. Will keep my fingers crossed. :)
