minor spill, at xmas do you consult with other family members how much to spend on each other? i try to take into account members who can't afford to spend alot on presents but this forum has allowed me to be more generous and give better gifts that i ever did but this can be misconstrued. Oh i'll just shut up beacuse my family lurk anyway, off to bed as i am exhausted
we have one family member who has 4 kids and my aunt who has 9 grand kids to buy for so everyone (except me because I've never been asked) put in £10 per child for Xmas. Many are starting to realise that they are also putting in for their own kids so this year will probably be the last year of it because two of the families don't speak so refused to put in the money for the others kids. This caused a big row with a few others because my aunt, who was sorting out the money, just divided it between all the kids not taking this into account so the other kids lost out.
Instead of getting say £100 each they only got £80, not sure of exact amount but do know it was £20 less per child than they should have got, which was a big difference and why the big row over it but yet they're doing it again this year.
I just decided years ago that I can get each kid a prezzie for less than that each so never bothered joining them, although DS lost out on Xmas gifts for a few years from most of the family because they thought he was included in the total figures.
He was 5 or 6 when we had a big family get together (my side) and my elder cousin gave him his Xmas gift and another kid asked why he got a gift, DS turned round and announced to everyone that my cousin and Aunt were the only ones who had ever gave him an Xmas gift and that while all the rest of them got over £100 each he never did. It took them over an hour to realise he was right, after loads of writing down of kids names and lots of sums on paper and some very embarrassed relatives he left with a good amount of money to put into his bank account and has never been forgot about since, he has the bank balance to prove it
Needless to say I do think there should be a set value placed on a prezzie so as not to offend someone or cause someone to think they have to spend more than they can afford.
My family know if they get something expensive that I've got it really cheap or free. I'm the family savvy shopper

The next Tesco Better Value leaflet is out on 29th August.
Looks like there will be some kind of petrol promotion and £8 of coupons inside:
