new to this site! 1st post!

Well here goes!

Im new to this site, and this is my first post! Here is what i owe! And my situation!

Virgin Credit Card (0% till april!) 1900 (limit 2000)
Barclaycard: 2300 (16%) limit 2500
Mint: 385 (limit 400)
Kays Catalogue: 46 (limit 1000)
Lloyds TSB Loan 1: 676.98 left to pay
Lloyds TSB Loan 2: 676.98 left to pay

Now i work part time and have 2 jobs- the first is a paper round which i get up to do every thursday at 5 in the morning to deliver papers for 3.95 a week! And my other job, my main part time job i work for a bingo club- i get weekly pay which varies each week but usually no less than 70 pounds a week. Up until now i have not made any late payments, but its starting to become a struggle now! i have been in debt before and worked to get myself out of it & remained so for 2 years, but now i have got back into the same routine and got myself in debt again! this time i have cut all my cards, and have vowed NEVER NEVER to get another credit card or loan as long as i live! Now the major part! My husband knows NOTHING about this- this is going to sound really strange, but if he knew he would want to pay the debts off and i want to do it myself, i got myself into the mess, i want to get myself out of it too! I guess my lightbulb moment was earlier on in the week when i had to ring my mum up in tears to ask if she could lend me some money-the first time since leaving home 8 years ago! i felt ashamed! Having weekly pay means i can pay more than the minimum to all my cards. i have other income of around 100 a month, and i have no bills or outgoings (other than debts) to pay- i dont smoke, and i dont drink or go out! ALL my spare cash is going on the debts- i had a barclaycard loan last year, which i managed to pay off within around a few months-that was for 1500! Anyway i didnt know what else to write- so hopefully i will be debt free soon!
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!

    Hi there

Don't feel bad, we've all been there. May I ask, could you get a job with better pay?

If you have good credit maybe you could get another cc at 0% and get rid of all the others? i know you want no more cards but if you canceeled all the others you'd only have 1 card to your name

Don't feel ashamed - most of us are here because of money problems of one kind or another, so we wont judge you. I was wondering about the job situation too - the paper round sounds like a LOT of effort for not much reward. Could you look around for something that pays more, or are there reasons you can only work certain hours etc?

  • sorry i should have said the reason i can only work at the bingo club is the fact i have a daughter (2) and my hubby works during the day, so i work thursday, and friday nights 6-10 and all day sunday- 2-10, i have the opportunity occasionally to do overtime- which i do- the paper round i do because its all up hill and cheaper than going to the gym! and i get paid (ok not a lot!)
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!

Ebay what you can. How about becoming a child minder (ask your local authority re rules and regs). It would mean you could be at home with your little one AND earn money. Just tell OH you are thinking of a career change and so are trying something else 1st.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

I admire you for getting up at 5am for less than £4 a week :)

Are you sure though, that your husband doesn't already suspect your reasons for getting up at such an unearthly hour?

    Good luck

Welcome to the forum! We are all in the same boat one shape or another so you are in good company. My personal opinion is that this is best shared with your Partner. It sounds like he would be more than supportive and would go a long way in helping you manage this before it spirals out of control. I realise that pride plays a big part in this, but you can look on it as a loan, the only difference is that you are paying him back and not the CC sharks. If anything it will make you feel a lot better being upfront with him about the situation rather than the distance being created by being secretive about it. Honesty and his support will bring you closer I would think.

    Good luck!

p.s Am I the only one thinking that Hannah's mummy missed out a decimal point in her OP. My lil Bro used to do a paper round years ago and he got paid a lot more than than.

  • well done on taking the first step to be debtfree. don't be ashamed, be proud.
  • Hi All

Thanks for the replies! We have just moved house before christmas (because of hubbys job) so there is a lot of work needs doing in the house before an inspection for me becoming a child minder would be able to be passed-although it is an option i have looked at- i used to do avon as well, but no one round here wants it-they all have stickers on their doors saying we dont buy products or services at the door! I already sell stuff on ebay, but once the fees are taken off, there isnt a lot left! I havent had any letters asking for payments nor any phonecalls but its just hanging over my head! My husband really doesnt suspect a thing- he HATES debt & is always going on about it- the first time when he knew i was debt as we just got together, he would go through my finances with a fine tooth comb, and wanted to know where everything was going- i never question or have questioned him about his finances- and i guess thats where me not wanting to tell him stems from! Im scared he would end the relationship if he knew all this, when i could get it sorted (ok slowly but i will get there!)
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!
