Has this man been reported to the police, a director withdrawing a companies funds could well be a criminal act.

Without wishing to concern you, jobseekers should be the least of your concerns. As a director (ex) and shareholder, you may be liable for any debts if their were personal guarantees. You may have resigned as a director, but that may not matter. What has happened to your shareholding? Im sure inland revenue and customs and excise will want to get their pound of flesh and you will need accounts for them to agree that the company can get signed off. If your co director has done a runner, it may need investigating exactly what else he did. You really must dot all the I's and cross the T's. You should seek professional advice and go through things precisely.

I would also suggest you might contact your MP for advice and help.

Genuine question, not sarcasm. What makes you think an MP could help. Most of them are pretty useless.

Yes. It's shame when respected and professional posters quit due to the trolls on here. Thankfully she's still around and on a site where such trolls aren't tolerated. Big is not always the same thing as great.

I can ony speak from experience that when my MP got involved with the DWP over an issue I had with them, it got sorted out in double quick time.

OP - what's the position with you selling the shares? If you could get rid of them for a nominal amount would that help your situation?

I suspect this may be more complicated - it's a bit more than "an issue" I think.

The OP has already said that they can't sell the shares, but if they did they would still have to evidence that they aren't worth more than they sold them for, or it becomes deprivation of capital. I know it's not quite the same thing but this is the way tax avoidance works- playing "games" with what capital you have. The proble is the DWP know that too.

Having worked in a government department and seen (and replied to) MPs' letters, it was not difficult to politely tell them "nothing we can do for your constituent", and have them reply thanking us for our time and trouble.

OP, it may help to contact your MP but don't get your hopes up.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
