..... I note that the repayment arrangement is the same for Australia as it is for the UK, however, this does not take into account the increased cost of living in Australia when compared to the UK. ...
The repayment arrangement is the same for London as it is for the rest of UK; the increased cost of living in London isn't taken into account either....Is there any way of challenging this?
No, I don't believe so.

This is true, however, how about saving as much as possible in your new job and repaying the whole lot as a lump sum? Can this be done with student loans? I'm applying for jobs all over the world, so it's pertinent information for me, too. Won't stop me from pursuing my dream career, though!0

The Student Loan is a commercial arrangement. As your income reaches specific levels, you repay at a set level. Your choices regarding how and where you spend the rest are not the concern of the SLC, nor should they be.
You are choosing to live in Australia, a choice I entirely understand! However, if you took on a larger and more expensive home in the UK and chose to eat only fillet steak every night, you wouldn't expect to have your payments reduced accordingly. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Groan, there we have it again. Just because someone disagrees then they HAVE to work for the student loans company.

I seem to recall this discussion a few weeks ago.0

We have just moved here and are having the same dilemma. Hoping to speak with the student loans company tomorrow, so will let you know their response.

A tin of soup doesn't cost $5... You can easily get soup for under $2 in all the supermarkets...
Which yes, is very pricey compared to the UK (the equivalent of around £1.20 for Tesco Value soup!) but as has been pointed out, wages are ridiculously high. I used to earn around £13 an hour as a cleaner in a motel, in the UK the pay would be half that! Regardless, that's the choice you make when you move to an expensive country (and one I am hoping to make myself!).0 -
The consideration on cost of living is yours, not theirs. If you choose to go to Oz, presumably for a better life then you need to take this into account. No point moaning about it really.0

You would have thought the living costs would have been factored in when considering the move.0 -
