Money saving hair loss/head pieces solutions

My mum is losing her hair and I want to know what options are out there for either head pieces, wigs, accessories etc that would mean she can jazz up her head but without it being too wiggy and expensive.

Ive seen some wigs on shopping channels but some of them look a bit shiny and they are quite expensive.

This is a great forum for female hairloss tips / treatments etc:

As for wigs / hairpieces, this is a really good (and realistic looking) one - if you get it from QVC then you can try it and then return it (even after wearing it) if you don't like it:

Have a look at the rest of the range on QVC as there are more styles and they come in a wide range of colours.

    Edited to add this one:

Have a look at the demo video to see it 'in the flesh'.

  • Have a look on YouTube for hijabis. They can have so many different ideas on how to tie a scarf, some more covering than others, as can the Jewish ladies - search under Tichel for those.

There will be different ways, different styles of scarves, snoods and other such things.

The most simple can be the best place to start.

Basically, the idea is to start with a non slip stretchy cap underneath. Then take your scarf, put it where you want the edge to be on your forehead (pretty much on the hairline is a good place to start), bring it down as though it's a low ponytail, then tie it. If she has long enough hair at the back, she can tie it round and then twist it into a bun or a ponytail.

A lot of places with a large mosque or two, will tend to sell varying scarves of every size, colour and pattern. It doesn't all have to be Norah Batty/Hilda Ogden nowdays.

Well, that's the excuse I'm going to use anyway.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I cant recommend the site below highly enough, I used to buy my clip in extensions and 3/4 hairpieces from here when I wore them, excellent quality (including the synthetic hair) and very very good prices, I have also called them a number of times for advice which has also been excellent and never pushy or rushed:)

  • Sorry to hear your mum is going through this Puddy,
A lot of women find full wigs too hot and sweaty and opt for much cooler scarves during treatment and recovery. It is usually when their hair starts growing back at the end of treatment that they seek out hairpieces for a more feminine look. A company called Era Hairpieces makes custom small hairpieces - stick them in your URL bar
