Redundancy rules/laws?

Can someone tell me are there government laws / rules regarding redundancy? Such as minimum legal pay out based on service and what it is. Is there a website with info? Is it the same law for voluntary redundancy?

Thanks.

  • Here is a link to the info (hopefully). There are statutory rates of redundancy but sometimes your employer will offer better terms but they are not obliged to do so..... this is the minimum you should be able to expect....

The statutory redundancy rates are rather derisory and really only allow you to survive for a few weeks until you find a new job (hopefully). As far as voluntary redundancy is concerned, if they want volunteers they will have to offer far more than the statutory minimum. For people nearing retirement they might consider early retirement without reduction of pension (assuming there is a pension scheme).
  • new question, does the company offering redundancy have to give package details prior to accepting volounteers
