Ladies - E Book Help Needed Please!

Hello!
I'm hoping a few ladies out there might be able to help me out. I've bought the wife a Kindle for her birthday and want to load it up with a few 'chick lit' books, problem is I have no idea about chick lit at all
I know she is currently reading Freya North so anything by authors like her would be great.

I'm afraid I haven't read any Freya North but some of the books I've read (and liked) are:
Eat, Pray, Love - Elizabeth Gilbert
Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
Can you keep a secret? - Sophie Kinsella
Me Before You - Jojo Moyes
I know the 50 shades books are being talked about a lot at the moment but the reviews I've read were not good and friends I know who have read them have advised me not to waste my time.
Hope this helps. And what a really thoughtful gift. I'm sure she'll love whatever books you choose.£5 per day challenge

What a lovely idea- I'm sure your wife will love her new kindle.
Maybe have a look at the bestsellers list on the kindle pages of the amazon store- they may give you some ideas of what is popular among readers and which your wife may also enjoy. Or try looking at recent books she has read and seeing what recommendations Amazon provides if you find those books on it's site?
Alternatively, you could give your wife a gift certificate for the kindle store so she can choose her own books to upload- to be honest, I think if I was her, that would be my favourite option as it so awful when somebody else buys me books without a really good idea of what I enjoy and also what I've all ready read.Halifax Credit Card: [STRIKE]£4915[/STRIKE] NEXT Directory: [STRIKE]£1980[/STRIKE]JD Williams: [STRIKE]£1984[/STRIKE] British Gas: [STRIKE]£394[/STRIKE] First Direct [STRIKE]£2985[/STRIKE]Debt-free for over 2 years now!!! :j0 -
What a lovely, thoughtful gift. :T
Personally, I LOVE Jane Austen's books (Pride and Prejudice), but I appreciate they aren't terribly modern. If your wife likes a particular genre, Amazon's "those who bought abc also bought xyz" will be your friend.
Or does your good lady have a close friend you could ask who wouldn't spoil the surprise?
Failing all else, an Amazon or other Kindle gift voucher is a good suggestion - perhaps a combination of the two; a few pre-loaded books plus a voucher for a couple more.
Much kudos to you for thinking about what your wife would like, as opposed to merely opting for:

I hope that your wife has a nice birthday and enjoys her lovely gift. x0 -
I think this is a lovely thoughtful idea! The only concern I would have is that you may end up paying for books she has already read (and chick lit type books aren't generally the type of thing you re-read). That said, it might be a good idea to get books that have been released quite recently (but they tend to be more expensive)
I like a bit of chick lit and have read a few Freya North books... If she likes that sort of story then I'd expect her to like Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella too.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Thanks for the ideas, I'll check out Amazon's 'if you like x then you might like y' and probably go for the gift certificate too though I really don't want to give her an empty Kindle..That Good Wife guide could be a good start ;-)FB :heartpuls Wiggly

You're a cheeky boy! Mind you, some of the books like that, given in the right spirit (of which I'm sure you have plenty, Fat Boy!) can be well-worth a smile.
Someone once gave me an old Edwardian book called 'Manners for Women' - full of handy hints about when and how to ask a man to flag down a hansom-cab for you, how to thank a stranger "without giving rise to suspicion"
when he offers you his umbrella and which three musical notes to use when laughing in public. Fantastic, hehe!
But whatever you choose, whether cheeky or tongue-in-cheek or serious, will, I'm sure, be appreciated because YOU chose it for your Mrs. Fat Boy and you took time and effort to think about her and what she would like - and that really is (even though it sounds a bit twee) what makes a present like this special. It isn't just the goods - it's the thought and the love behind it.
Here's one more suggestion for the Kindle that she might like - especially if she's a bit of a Sex and The City fan - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Letters-Great-Ursula-Doyle/dp/0230739466/ref=pd_sim_b_1
Keep smiling! x0 -
I think this is a fab idea and I'd second JoJo Moyle's 'Me before You' as an amazing book.
I've a feeling that if she doesn't open the books on the Kindle she can return them as 'purchased in error', but once she clicks on them that option's gone.
Lots of the classics are free (Austen etc), so that's a no-risk option.
What about other sorts of books such as travel guides? If you know where you want to go on holiday next year you could always put the guide on so she can start working out the details?
Good luck, and feel smug for being a top husband!!0 -
hi, lovely idea! on the lines of chick lit i have to agree with sophie kinsella and marian keyes (i love is there anybody out there). what about cecila ahern (p.s i love you).
Would suggest the Twilight Saga, i swore for years i'd never read or watch it, but got that hooked on the books that i read all 4 books in 1 week!
Another suggestion is the High Heeled Mysteries, i downloaded the first one as a freebie and seemed a decent read (although, haven't actually forked out for the rest yet - my new found passion seems to be paranormal romance thanks to Afterlife the saga).
Oh and theres Monday to Friday man, its gotten really good reviews, managed to knock 50 Shades off the top seller and still only 20p!0 -
What a lovely pressie, I am sure she will love it...
I know not as fun as having it loaded up with books, but what about also getting her a amazon voucher for £25, She can then choose books herself...

what an excellent idea! my personal favourites are Milly Johnson, Jenny Colgan (meet me at the cupcake cafe is a brilliant book!) and Trisha Ashley. I would also put a vote in for books like War Horse, PS I Love You, The Time Travellers Wife as well......
oh, and theres a great trilogy by Victoria Connelly about Pride and Predujice and all things Jane Austen, theres A Weekend with Mr Darcy, The Perfect Hero and Mr Darcy Forever. You're so very special, I wish I was special :dance:0
