If I whine about this petty detail then I probably will remain in Tesco's stacking shelves for life, and the 1st class software engineering degree I have will eventually go in the bin.0 -
They want references for a weekend, unpaid job?
If you are/were at uni, ask a prof or lecturer to provide a reference. That'll be better than a Tesco reference anyway0 -
The last two software companies I worked for also refused to give anything other than a plain HR reference. From what I understand most companies will not give an old style reference anymore.0

Actually why are you faffing around with these muppets? Keep the Tescos day job, start answering some questions on Stack Overflow, chip in to an open source project (find something on Sourceforge). Then stick that on your CV and try for a proper job.
What's your main skillset? Java / C# / C++ / SQL ?
You have a first !!!!!!. Try getting a job as a raw grad in '93 with a Richard the Third.....0 -
