Anybody else think they've landed there? Sorry for posting a moaning thread people!
Yes, I know "something will turn up eventually", that I just "need to persevere", that "times are hard" and many others "are in the same boat" but let's have a thread for all us older (over 45) long term job seekers to let it out of our systems.:mad:
.... and .:):):D just to show I really do try to be as postive as I can.

Yes, I was there, aged 49 wondering where the next decent job was coming from.
Lightbulb moment?
Started my own business and am still self employed and loving it.0 -

Me too, 40 (don't look it though!) and all I can get is minimum wage agency work but it's too infrequent to work towards a meaningful existence.
I keep my chin up though and hopefully one agency job may take me on and I can think about re-training once I get a steady income.0 -
In the last few weeks I've been forced off ESA, went to sign on JSA only to be told I dont qualify for the benefit as my wife works full time. So Im 56 years old with several health problems no job and no benefits. If thats not on the scrapheap i don't know what is. I worked from being 15 till 46 years old then became ill so I dont see much chance of me getting work with anyone now unless I go back to my trade of Painting and decorating which is going to be quite difficult with wosening arthritis in multiple joints and several other ailments and illnesses....
Great Britain???? I dont think so.0 -
Mazroy, I really feel for you. Husband is 55, made redundant in April, loses all entitlement to Benefit in October, and no sign of work. He's applied for 100s of jobs this year, not even got an interview. He has skills, abilities, transferable skills and the desire to work, yet seems to be passed over all the time. He feels totally rejected and can't see himself working again. And like you he's paid in all his life (since age 15) yet now when he needs it there's nothing for him. Times are tougher than they have ever been, and there's less help than ever before.0

Thats awful, I hope he finds something soon.
Is he good at DIY becaus ethere are always people wanting jobs done. A friend of mine does a lot of odd jobs like digging up bushes and putting sheds up etc and he is always busy.
A few weeks ago someone knocked on my door and asked if I wanted 2 lilac trees trimmed I asked them how much.He said 90 quid, I replied no thank you.
I am planning to trim them myself this Autumn and its an hours job if that.
Some people must pay for these things though.0 -

Hello. I'm on it as well. I'm 46, finished work at the end of March 2011 and haven't worked since. I'm also on the work programme and hating every minutes of it.0
