Job 'interview' advice please!

I'm still a newbie so go easy on me please!

I have a meeting for a job tomorrow that I really want to get, they'll be showing me around the store/warehouse and where I would be working etc etc. The manager has stressed that it is not an interview but the area manager will also be there... do you know what they may be looking for? Have done all the research I need on the company and am prepared for most typical interview questions just in case they happen to throw some in...

I'm just wondering has anyone else had any experience of this type of approach and have any advice they could share with me?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have covered your bases with brushing up on the company research and general interview questions. I've only ever been shown around the workspace as part of a bigger formal interview session, but I suspect most employers do it for the same reason - to see you in the environment where you'll be working and be reassured that you are a pleasant person who is polite and friendly when introduced to your future colleagues, and are alert and interested when walking around about your surroundings. Good luck!

Hi ACDC1978, I'm a little confused. If you've never met the people before then it has to be an interview with a view of getting employment with that particular business. On that basis the following is crucial.

    1. Dress appropriately
    2. Be on time
    3. Listen attentively
    4. Give interesting and business like responses

These are the basics and will always stand you in good stead regardless of what type of job interview you attend.

I'm aware it is a little unorthadox but I think what they may be trying to do is get a 'feel' of me (no comments there please!!!) while the area manager is present then the manager can hold separate interviews with 2-3 people that he and the area manager can agree could be good for the job? Or am I WAY off the mark?!

Thanks very much for the advice and good luck wishes, have never had this type of approach before so it's a learning curve at least! Will post on here later what happened so it may be of some use to someone else in a similar situation!

when they say near the end of the interview "do you have any questions?"
    Ask Questions -
I like these questions for sales type jobs:

What are the common attributes of your top performers?

What are a few things that really drive results for the company?

How do you plan to deal with <insert direct competitors issue here>?
this last question proves that you have actually done the industry homework as well as the company homework.

    I also ask
what do you expect me to accomplish within the first 60 -90 days?

<ask the present incumbent> what particular challenges arise from doing this job, and how do you deal/cope with them?
also look up on the web for killer questions and pick your own from the myriad available.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Im similarly confused.
But I agree in general with the other advice, treat it like one anyway. Perhaps as its a warehouse, and they have stressed that it's not an interview, a suit or full business attire (what I would usually advise when going to see an employer) may not be suitable, but you still want to look smart, and serious about the position.

There are all sorts of possibilities about what they have in mind, but expect them to be taking note of just how you respond and react to practically everything from the very second you arrive.

    Best of luck :-)

Best of luck with the interview and you never know they may be "thunderstruck" by you in a good way :)

It might be a bit late for this interview-hopefully you'll be successful , but it wouldn't hurt to buy a book entitled 'Brilliant Interview' and keep it on your bookshelf. It's got some obvious advice but there's a lot of other helpful pointers on how to answer tough questions. I've learned loads.

Thanks for all the help guys! Was dressed in black jeans, top and blazer so not a suit but smart all the same...! Turned out is WAS an interview but manager had said it wasn't so I wouldn't be nervous!!! Turned out to be an interview with the area manager who was lovely and put me at ease straight away and only an hour and a half after my interview I had been called in for a 15 minute 'chat' tomorrow where I need to take some references in - looking good!!!

Good luck to you too fannyadams, hope it works out for you!
