I'm not what sure to do about my current job, so I'm looking to get some advice. I'm soon to be 27, coming up to the 1st year anniversary of my marriage and always looking to get things done. I get myself stuck in.
In the beginning of April, I started work at a start up as an intern, expenses paid only and free lunch. When my now current boss called me to say he had picked me over 3 others, he said it was not because of skills but because he had thought of me as a hardworker.
At the time, there was another intern doing some work not related to my own so we are working as part of a team. We also had some workers outsourced overseas.
Fast forward 2 months, and the other intern decided to ask to be paid or she'll leave. They had been working there a month before I had started. After doing a few 'numbers' and the founder (my boss) speaking with his business partner, they decided to pay both of us- which I was happy about although I hadn't made an ultimatum or bought up the subject.
We've had various delays, getting things all together but we continued to get paid. I'm ok for now, with the salary and there have been times where I have personally done 60 hour works. I'm talking about leaving at 11pm and then coming in the morning.
5 weeks ago, we finally started advertising our product for customers to buy but the results have not been good. Salary payments have been delayed constantly, there was a time when I hadn't been paid for 3 weeks. At the end of week 3, I was planning to ask my boss about it but he paid us for 2 weeks only. From then on, I'm always being paid 1 week behind schedule.
From my understanding, they are having cashflow problems and they are looking to bring another investor on board. But the constant payment delayments are getting to me, and with no strategy on how to bring the company forward is making me think twice about its success.
My colleague (the other intern) has advised me that she has 2 offers of employment and that she is definitely leaving- for personal reasons (which I can understand). Since her departure is definately going ahead and my boss doesn't know about it yet, I'm considering my position. I can't see how things will work without her, no one else can do what she does. And I'm also thinking how my boss will react when he finds out, whether he'll call it a day or not with the cashflow issues as well.

No harm in you looking for alternative employment. Your employers seem like the type who have an idea but haven't thought it through.
If you do find something, don't make the mistake of jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
And don't give in your notice until you have a firm offer in writing otherwise you may find yourself with nothing!Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
