I want to make a ferrari shaped cake!!

I have searched the internet for a recipe or some idea on how I would go about making a cake in the shape of a ferrari but have had no luck. Does anyone know of any recipe books or websites where i could find this information?

It's nothing to do with the recipe and everything to do with the cake tin. If you cannot get a ferrari shaped cake tin which I'm doubtful that you can then you could make a cake in something like a loaf tin and carve it into a ferrari shape. Careful use of icing or marzipan would help smooth over the surface and could be used to add detailing.

This is a recipe for cake:
Equal weight of plain flour, sugar, eggs and butter. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and flour. Bake at 190C.

For royal icing (which you can put on quite thick and goes stiff):
Either buy a packet of all-in-one royal icing sugar and follow the packet instructions or beat egg whites until peaking, then beat in icing sugar to desired consistency. If you make it that way you can quite easily vary the texture from a spreading or piping consistency (like plaster) to a fondant that can be kneaded and rolled out. Adding a little glycerine will keep the icing soft. You can add food colouring.

I've got a recipe in an Australian Womans Weekly cook book for a sun bug - its like an open topped beetle - not like a Ferrari but still a sporty car of sorts. If you want I can scan it in a send it to you. It has details of how to cut it out from fairly normal cake tins - I do not have any strange tins and I know I've made it before now!

If you want it pm me and I'll scan it in and send it.

I doubt you will find a ferrari shaped cake tin/pan, ferrari are very protective over their imageing rights and very rarely allow anyone to reprocude their cars in any form never mind a cake tin.

The only way would be to come up with a cake and carve it in to the shape af a ferrari. also you cant royal ice a sponge cake. as the cake contains egs a properly royal iced cake takes days to be done corectly and a sponge cake needs to be done fresh.
If you are doing royal iceing the idea is to lay it on in thin layers and build it up not put it on like plaster. there is a product called meriwhite that replaces the use of eggs in royal iceing due to slmonella and egg allergies cake decorators never use egg in the production of iceing.
  • Ive got a racing car shaped cake tin. It's made by Wilton. Big department stores would probably sell them, but I got mine off e-bay.
