I applied at 6.15am on the Tuesday and got mine on the Friday.
  • I think Play.com have operated this promotion unfairly for not giving all its day to day customers money off but instead are catering to one off freeloaders.

Surely they should reward loyal customers with money off future purchases like CDWOW do when they send vouchers with your purchases.

Now I feel all those purchases I have made with Play.com in the past have gone unrecognised and into the pockets of countless freeloaders.

I agree with isasmurf - stick with CDWOW - at least they give everyone a fair chance of a discount!

AFAIK it was intended to bring new customers to the site. Play very rarely do offers like this for existing customers.

IMO, Play's prices are rarely the cheapest anyway and savvy moneysavers know this.

They allegedly issued these £5 vouchers on a first come first served basis. I find this very hard to believe, given I applied for a voucher at 8am on the Thursday morning.

Suprised to see the majority of your voters (63%) received a voucher. They must have been up very very early Thursday morning!

Is there anybody out there who applied after 8am on Thursday and still received a voucher?

I think most of the successful applications went in early on TUESDAY morning. I did mine about 8-ish. I would think that Wednesday and Thursday applicants were unsuccessful.

Did you really mean you sent yours in on the Thursday? Or was that a typo for "Tuesday"? If Tuesday, you should have been lucky. If Thursday, you were much too late.

I would have thought that if Play were looking for new customers then they would have had the decency to either stop accepting codes and display a meesage once the 8000 limit had been reached or send out a mail explaining that the vouchers had run out but they hoped to see them as a customer in future - could have even offered a smaller discount voucher or % off first order.

That's true, although I think that they left the page up on the site so that Star readers could still have a go, I think people would be more !!!!!! off if they went to the trouble of collecting the codes and then not be able to enter them on the site. If all the codes had been claimed on the Tuesday, it would have been pointless for the Star to continue advertising the offer, and since the Star was involved in the promotion, Play were obligated to keep the site up to avoid !!!!!! them off.

Of course people would be disappointed when they didn't receive a voucher, but at that point they'd realise they were not one of the first 8000.

    IMO of course...

I explained why I think they left it up in my post, but it's anyone's guess...

I know a lot of people enjoyed spending their lovely play vouchers they received after following mrme's post with the codes from the Star. Soooo, only a suggestion, but nominations are currently taking place for 'april's post of the month' in the thread below.
