new electric cooker advice please

My much loved Belling format cooker (about 24 years old) is sadly dying on me. Top oven door has gone, timer died, fan oven doesn't sound healthy. Time to replace I think as spares etc not available according to trusted electrician. It is 600 mm freestanding electric cooker, two ovens, fan ovens, ceramic hobs. I had thought of replacing with another Belling but sales assistant told me they no longer as well made or reliable. Budget is max £600. Any recommendations/suggestions/advice most welcome.

The electric shop have a seen it cheaper option, though their delivery charges need to be added.

Sadly I have to agree with the sales assistant who warned you off Belling.
I also had the original Belling Format and last year had to buy a new cooker. I chose what was then a top specced Belling FSE 60 MF. Big mistake .
First impressions were good. Until I switched on the grill in top oven.
The floor of the top oven is very thin and flexes when you press it. When it gets hot and expands it emits a loud banging noise which ok is not harmful but very disconcerting.
The grill pan is too thin, it distorts when it gets hot. Replaced by Belling.
All the chrome came off the grill wire rack within 6 months. My old one still looks new.
The ceramic hob scratched badly and stained within 12 months and was replaced by Belling when I complained. The circular markings for the rings actually rubbed off. This was not down to misuse... my old one never scratched in 27 years.
The screws holding the hob onto the cooker are domed, not flush , and as such the cooker cannot be inserted into the gap vacated by the old cooker although they are allegedly the same size.
The fan oven element failed after 18 months. A 2cm piece fractured and fell out of the ring element. Ive beeen cooking for 40 years and never had one fail before.
The oven shelf supports are 10 cm long only. They do not extend from the front to the back of the oven. When removed for cleaning they tear the walls where they are inserted.
The fan oven glass door has scratched.
Last week the entire cooker switched itself off when I was baking. Nothing worked: clock , timer, hob nor ovens. Maybe some kind of thermal cutout device? because it switched back on after 10 mins. I originally thought we'd had a powercut but the rest of the kitchen was ok.
It's impossible to clean the roof of the main oven.
I could go on, but you get the picture. I'm sorry I ever bought this cooker but I'm stuck with it. Poor components , poor build quality.0 -
Carly thanks for your comments, exactly why I asked for advice. My 24 yr old cooker still has clear markings on hob, few scratches, paintwork and chrome are fine. Four oven shelves still barely marked, grill pan hasn't a mark on it and believe me this cooker has been well used and abused by a family of five over the years!0

I would agree with the sales assistant too. We were given a really old Belling cooker when we first got married and it was brilliant. When we had new kitchen we bought a new free standing Belling. It has been awful in comparison. Luckily we bought insurance (which we don't usually do) and have called them out MANY times. The engineer told me that the brand new Bellings are even worse than replacement is. I would steer clear of Belling.0
