That problem, STOP 0x4e, is pretty rare, and a Microsoft page about it means little to me, and probably less to you!
I would think you may have to take the computer to a friendly local computer repair person (not PC World, if you value your sanity!) to see if it can be fixed. There would seem to be little that you could do yourself, unless you've opened up a system unit before and (say) unclamped the memory cards and put them back again.
I do hope you have a backup of your data files, pictures, videos, music, etc, otherwise these will need to be copied off your hard disk IF it's necessary to replace the PC.0 -
First thing to check here, is the simple things first
What you seeing is the what we call , BSOD ''blue screen of death'', system crash.
3 things to check:
1. Hardware - bad devices/drivers newly added devices,
2. Dust/ Overheating , or
3.Virus infection!!
1. Have you recently added any new hardware, or installed any software programed, before this happened?
(ie: left a usb drive in and usb port , or pluged in new printer, if so unplug these when the computer Off!) then try rebooting/turning on again,
2. Is the computer well ventilated, (not covered in paper work , or any air vents blocked) ie: dust overheating is a big cause of BOSD. a fan inside the computer may have stopped working, like the processor fan (CPU fan) this would cause instant blue screens on booting up in to windows and cause unsafe overheating,
3. Have you downloaded any software, like screen savers, 3rd party applications, has your pc been running slow? before crashing.
:-this could be caused by a Virus.... your need a rescue disk, like
kaspersky rescue disk, and burn it on to a disk from a working PC.
this is a special boot disk to put in the infected computer and to scan for virus's.
- is your computer physical plugged in the internet router in your home, i would unplug this from the network, if its connect by Wifi well it wont connect if your pc cant boot, but if it dose, you need to stop the WiFi connection on that pc from connecting to your network. if it boot into windows.
4. I cant advise you to look inside your PC , AS I don't know how IT savy you are..., and you need to know what is what, as there are power cables, fans small parts inside, and anti static precautions to take ect.... but i would recommend getting to a PC repair shop ASAP.
What is the age of your desktop pc, and when was windows last installed? to give me better idea for what the problem is.
Again ....... there is one last thing to try,
while booting/turning on the PC just before the window logo comes up keep pressing F8.. There is a menu option to boot into. Key down to'' Last known Good Configuration'' this brings windows to working state to repair what might have gone wrong in windows ie: newly installed hardware devices- has a driver the could be causing the crash
this might help fix the issue. and hopefully it will boot in to windows not crashing, if this works run a Virus scan straight away.
also on booting up you can press F8 again this time boot into
''safe mode'' - this will boot (it will take a bit longer and your see alot of txt on the screen), this brings windows in to a limited working state to allow you or a technician to repair what might have gone wrong in windows , or faulty hardware, using this a IT tech can check computer logs to determent the BSOD.
if the pc dose crash in safe mode or last know configuration further analysis is needed! You need to Find a local PC repair shop.
who would will be happy to help you,
Hope this helps0 -
also just checked the tech info from microsoft- this could be fault with the Hard drive (HDD) page faults indicated issue with memory which when system memory is full it i/o read off the Hard Drive this is called Virtual memory.
Which it can causes system to crash. it like have the memory pulled from your system when its on to put it in simple terms. (Dont do this ever)
so if you computer dose get up and running- Download and install updates and device drivers for your computer from Windows Update. IMPORTANT to ALWAYS do this.
- Scan your computer for computer viruses.
- Check your hard disk for errors. ( this could be the problem)
So when you pc is working again, you my need and new HARD DRIVE and Memory upgrade if your system needs to many resources at one time, using you memory up, or again virus could be hoging up the system ram/memory not letting windows work, but to early to tell at this stage.
I can help you with disk check if needed.0 -
You do know that paging file space is used before all physical RAM is utilised? (quite a bit before in some cases)
And that 0x4E is normally a driver issue as described in the PFN (ie two subsequent calls to MmUnlockPages for example).
Almost certainly driver related, I've created a few of these stop codes as a programmer with lapse code.
If you have windows xp/vista/7 then driver verifier can help if you post the logs.
