My personal faves are Leighton Denny and Nails Inc, i easily get a full week out of both of these brands.
I have recently just tried a england and that stood up for a good week as well.,0 -
I find when I "borrow" my mum's Chanel polish it does last a lot longer then other brands. (I say "borrow" because sometimes I don't always manage to give them back...!)
Another tip is to- once coated, fill a basin of cold water and leave your nails in the cold water for at least 60 seconds before painting on a top coat. A decent base also helps.
I've also noticed Revlon just launched a new gel-varnish which is designed to prevent chipping nails. I've not tried it myself but as its using a different set of ingredients I'd be interested to see how it works- if you do try it please let us know!0 -
I always use OPI on my toes, it can lasts for weeks without any chipping. I only have to repaint because my nails have grown!
On my fingers because of course you are using your hands more often they can still chip more easily, so I often use a cheaper one like Rimmel.0 -
I read through this thread a while ago and put some of the tips into practice Wednesday.
I don't use a base or top coat, but using the remover on the bare nail beforehand made a huge difference. I could feel how different it was and then put on my Avon nail varnish (Viva Pink). Seemed to go on better and dry faster. Then I put the mosiac effect (black) on the day after. I also really took my time for each coat to dry and harden.
Only have one chip so far which is amazing because before I could never even go one day without chipping many and I began to despair of ever finding a way to keep them nice for longer.
I am also going to look into Opi Gel.
On a side note at 25 I must have good taste in nail art because one of the school girls (Yr 7 & 9) who lives next to my Nan pointed at my nails and told her mother "see, she has nails like the ones I want". I was quite bemused lol.0 -
Year 7 & 9 good taste? You must live somewhere a lot nicer than I do, lol.All power is from within and therefore under our control0

the polish is irrelevant. its all about the topcoat. Seche Vite is the best. But all top coats dull neon colours.
Also you should only use 4 coats max: base - two coats of polish - top.
apparently the more polish u apply the more it's likely to chip as it doesnt dry properly.
I found the cheaper 99p polishes last longer than say nails inc. my primarni glow in the dark one lasted a good 5 days before chipping, and I only bought it for fancy dress. im sure the 'glow' ingredient had something to do with it.0 -
I really like China Glaze polishes. I find they don't chip much at all (unlike Orly, which are lovely colours but they chip so easily), and they seem to make my nails really hard.0
