Just like to add, if they are going down the insolvency route, is it possible that the directors/owners could just beef up their salaries significantly just so that they can 'not afford' to pay redundancy? Or is that not possible for legal reasons?
If they are insolvent then an official receiver is appointed and they do an investigation (though arguably high level) into what has occurred, why the company has failed etc. If they felt there had been misconduct by one or more of the directors then there is the option of prosecutions see http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?itemId=1084616121&r.i=1084615452&r.l1=1073858790&r.l2=1084600708&r.l3=1084613266&r.s=sc&r.t=RESOURCES&type=RESOURCES

On the basis of what you say it sounds unlikely they have a particularly generous redundancy and so it is most likely simply statutory and so other than a bit of timing then it is unlikely there to be much difference between the company or the government paying it.

That all said, a company would have to be right on a knife edge for the issue of foreign objects to make it go bankrupt. My ex used to work for a yoghurt manufacturer and finding nuts, bolts etc in pots was at least a weekly occurrence from what she said.

My parents retired and moved abroad, they learnt the language even tho there is no great need where they went, so no excuse for anyone else really is there its not an impossible task.

It's an Indian food company, run by Indians and they mainly employ Indians, so it's not strange at all, it happens all over the country.

She's in her late 50's so was in her late 30's I never said she speaks no English in my OP although I realise I did say she doesn in another. She can communicate enough to get by.

You can't expect every single person to have the same learning ability for a language.

I just don't understand what's the point in the comment in the first place? I asked for advice, some people gave it and then I get attacked.

People, the point of this post is not about her language at all it's about her redundancy.

True but you say because of her age she is unlikely to find work again but to be honest it's not her age it will be the fact she can't speak (or only a little) of English that will restrict her future employment options.

Regards to learning ability, come on she's had 20 years!! Neither of my parents are academic but they had a willingness to learn which got them through and they don't need to be employed out there they learnt to be more socially accepted.

Cant see the factory closing, there will be investigations to look at how it happened and maybe make some changes to try and prevent it happening again but not a full closure.

What kind of foods is it OP, ready meals any chance ?

Thanks guys, yes I believe it's ready meals. She knows age and language will both work against her but this info helps.
