Any money saving tips for Ocado please ?

Just got my first Ocado order from Joseph in the Onion van.. not sure what the veg obsession is about as the carrier bags are named after fruit and veg too. Apple = freezer, raspberry = fridge and cabbage = cupboard.

Got £20 off and free delivery for my first order and saved 7.86 on my shopping also.

Usually I would shop online with Waitrose and get free delivery and recently I've been to the store with my mother.

We went organic in March to avoid GM stuff, pesticides etc. Ocado seems to have a bigger organic range than Waitrose and the veg aren't as expensive as Abel & Cole.

Abel & Cole has £10 minimum order and 99p delivery charge. Waitrose is £50 minimum order and free delivery. Ocado has £40 minimum order and I'm totally confused about delivery charges..

So I'd be really grateful if someone could give me some moneysaving tips about Ocado and also tell me what they think of Ocado thanks.

I did notice that the Winalot Classics 6 tin pack works out the same as the price we pay at Poundland.

Hi, If you can cope with not having a particularly regular shop, register and then wait for them to email you discount codes - usually between 10% and 20%. Sometimes they come quite frequently but sometimes you wait ages. Also look for free delivery slots which come up occasionally at less popular times - this is a bit of trial and error and means keep checking. Always check the offers - I tend to base my shop around these and then sometimes do a cheapy Asda shop inbetween for generic things like cleaning products, soft drinks etc. However, I stick to Ocado for organic, free range etc as they have far more ethical and quality products.
    Hope that helps a bit!:)

HotUKDeals has a few codes posted on there. Not sure if they will help though as they appear to be for first shops.

  • Don't register for their regular payment thing. As soon as they get your money, they coincidentally start having problems.

However, the organic bags were quite good - not as good as Riverford, IMO, but better than the usual fare. And much less packaging than if you get everything separately.

If in doubt, I'd choose the later deliveries as they are a bit cheaper. There is a tiny risk if there is a problem that they cancel the delivery if it's really late, but the money saved on delivery is significant enough to make it worth the risk.

I have never had an inappropriate substitution from them, either, and their staff are polite and friendly - and will often call if they're passing and a bit early for their next delivery and ask if you're there and want to take delivery earlier (no extra charge).

I think the Onion and Apple vans are all to reinforce the fresh veg impression. Bit of clever marketing, as you look at a tesco van and assume they're getting a nappy and chicken nuggets delivery.

They're worth a go. And the meat is very good quality.

Oh, and if you can, look for the stuff that is sold in Tesco, as they price match them, but if it's ever so slightly different, they don't.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

It's worth looking for what Ocado call The Green Van when booking a delivery slot. The Green Van is actually a van of any colour but it's one that will be delivering to an address very near to you. It's called Green as it's environmentally friendly if you choose it as it's already in your area, I'm led to believe the delivery charge is quite low as to encourage you to use it.

Waitrose has finally started delivering to my area :T

I'm very excited about clambering on this band wagon but can't seem to find any codes anywhere?

Does anyone know if there are some "moey off your first shop" codes floating about please? I tried HDUK but no luck...

I don't know about a code, but it may be worth signing up as you may then get a first shop offer. I did - but when I started to order I found the website so annoying that I gave up and cancelled. And now - because I have "ordered" once, I am no longer a "new" customer.

I have ordered from ocado for a few years and nearly always get a free delivery slot. (I ignore the email to sign up for a regular payment thing). I think their website is very good and it is easy to find things on offer. Though I think the standard of their delivery drivers has gone down generally.

Waitrose are now delivering in my area so I am tempted to try again, especially as I have a John Lewis credit card. (Double points for JL but no longer for ocado.

PS If you look on the Waitrose website there is a first shop offer valid until 31/6.

Waitrose does free delivery at any time on a £50 minimum order. Ocado has a wider range of organic stuff than my local Waitrose.
