External Disc Drive

The internal dvd drive on my Dell Inspiron 1764 has broken and I wish to replace it. The laptop itself will probably be replaced within the year so I'm thinking that an external drive would be the best option. But I'm not to sure what I should be looking for. Any advice?
I've been doing a search on Amazon and there seems to be plenty of USB External DVD Combo Drive CD burner for Laptops available and there also seems to be plenty of External DVD Burner Drive CD burners available, but I don't know what the difference is.
I've also done a quick check on ebay and items there seem to be coming in at a cheaper price but the ones I've glanced at don't seem to be 'names,' e.g.Sony but does that really make a difference
Any advice and even a few suggestions would be appreciated.

Click for replacement internal drives
Almost any USB DVD will work. Which you choose depends partly on what you wish to do with it.

Replacing the drive in situ shouldn't cost more than £10-15
A laptop with working drive will probably be more attractive when you do sell it than one with the non-functional one
It'll be more convenient than USB too0 -

Did you install the latest Firmware for your drive from DELL?

If you know the drive is faulty then I would just pickup a replacement from somewhere and replace it.0
