Yep... they all went to the airport this morning, all the press not just the Express, and from a half empty flight managed to track down one bemused Romanian coming for work. He a) spoke English and b) was looking for a job cleaning cars. I don't think the British job seeker has much to fear. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Apparently flight bookings from Romania are down on this time last year. Can't help thinking that anyone that wants to take advantage of 'benefits Britain' is already here on a self employed basis (car washing and selling the big issue)
Car washing is an interesting occupation. I'm falling over people to wash my car in any supermarket car park but it seems to have become much more expensive. How does that work?0 -

because being SE as a car washer qualifies for benefits so there's no actual need to wash your grubby little car0 -

Depends where you live.
In the Midlands there are several places that will do it from £2.50. Where we live they start at £5 no doubt Kensington would be £20."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

If I have a £100k mortgage on a £159k house, my interest will be 3%

Seems to me that the little Somalian boys who do it in my local Sainsburys (£6 a pop) aren't cheap especially as they do it from handcarts/buckets instead of the Karcher Pressure Wash type - which is the province of Eastern Europeans around here.
But car washes are few and far between in this neck of the woods. Can't think why with all the big shiny cars around.
It is, though, an 'interesting' occupation. I have nothing against it whatsoever, but it adds nothing (in my view) to the economy of UK other than 'spread wealth around'. We are all capable of washing our own cars for free, but most of us become too lazy if we drive past a car wash and are not hard up for £6.
It's a small business. A cash only business. A business that requires little or no premises as such. A 95% or more gross profit before wages. I strongly suspect that HMRC see a rather small slice of the action.....
For a bit of fun, it's always worth asking for a VAT invoice occasionally. Makes them think. Makes them forget all the English they ever learned.0 -

they would probably know that one doesn't need to register for VAT until one's turnover is over 70K pa.0 -
