How long does the financial support process at the OU take?

I applied back start of July, when I log in it says we received your application etc and will process it in due course. I did receive it before but its been that long ago I can't remember how long it takes.

I had mine in about the middle of July and it was approved a couple of weeks ago. This wasn't my first though, so if it's your first, then that may make it take a little longer?

Do you come under the new system of loans or are you already a student?

No I've studied in the past, last time was 2008 or so. It said I qualify for the full grant because of income.

Mine took about a month to be processed.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
  • Are you sure you are on the old system. I thought that in order to qualify you need to have studied with them very recently and that you have continued to study?
You are supposed to complete a degree within the six years or you lose funding. 2008 is a long time ago. What modules did you study?
I'm not an expert but it sounds to me like you would be on the new funding route.

    I don't know, how would I know what system I am on? I got a certificate in IT, M150 & T175
  • You need to check this with the OU. If you accepted your certificate then I suspect that you will be on the new funding rules. I'm not an expert in OU fees & funding but I would ring them up to check.
I do know that if you get a student loan to pay your fees you won't have to pay anything back till 2016 and when you earn over 21k a year.

  • Hi

Yes sorry to say you will be on the new rules. To qualify for the 'transitional rules' for current students you had to be studying on a 2011/12 course.

New rules mean higher fees and no grants, only loans. You need to call them urgently to see if you can still continue.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:(

I don't get this, the checker thing says the following.
    Fee grant and course grant

From the information you have provided it appears that you could be eligible for the maximum award which would be:
Your fees paid up to a value of £820 for courses of at least 30 points totalling up to 60 credit points.
A course grant of £265 to help with study expenses.

    I got this email yesterday
I am writing to tell you that we have awarded you £810 of financial support towards course XXXX This means you will not have to pay anything to register for the course, but you will still need to complete your registration.

But I am still baffled by new fees etc
