I'm in the same position of Saveonline 9 ending, but for me first:utility save v3 is coming up as about £30 p.a. cheaper than Scottish power. I know nothing about this company. Does anyone, please?

Be wary of First Utility their price isn't what it seems. Their discount is only applied at the end of each full year you're with them - bit of a scam to come top of the listings, NPower do the same thing. Also they have a cancellation charge and the Scottish Power tariff doesn't - BIG factor to take into account.

My saveonline ends 31 Aug. When is it safe to start the ball rolling for a swap to a cheaper company?

How long does it take to switch?

    Thanks

Standard Licence Condition (SLC) 14A states it must be 21 days after your cooling off period ends unless you ask for longer or a problem develops in which case it should be a reasonable timeframe.

The switch date is all that matters and it must be future dated from when the new supplier registers their interest. They can't do this until your cooling off period ends, it must be no further in the future than 28 days of when sent, must include a period for the current supplier to object which is typically 5 working days and don't forget there is processing time to send it...so its unlikely they will jump on it as soon as your cooling off period ends.

So, time this with your cooling off period and you will be safe.

Finally done it - have applied for Scottish Power fixed rate though a bit late as my Saveonline finishes on 28th August, so I'll go onto E.on's variable rate during the transfer.

    Morning guys,

I'm so sorry you're not keen on the new website Andy_WSM :o I will as always pass on the feedback that you have all given.

As you know I'm not here over the weekend so sorry for the delayed reply :o.

Right, I have logged in to my online account this morning and all seems to be working ok now. I do know there were issues over the weekend though.

To see products and prices for new tariff's you need to log in as normal, then click product switch on the left hand side, then switch your product (bottom right), you will then see your current tariff and other tariff's you can change to. If you click the + tab it will give unit prices and extra details.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Helena :)

    Hi Helena,

I was confused about why I couldn't find unit tariff prices anymore, and wrote a post about it and I'm still no wiser.

Above you have told the poster that they 'can' find the unit prices, when they have logged in. Do you have to have an online account then now if you want to see the prices?

I haven't an online account but I would like to see them, as I used to do before the website changed. If this is the case, as I can't find them anywhere, then this isn't fair, and I would like to know why this is please?

    Thanks,
    Candy

    Hi candy,

Yes you do need to have an online account to view the prices at the moment, otherwise you would need to use the quote tool if you wanted to see them without registering.

We have already put it forward about being able to see the unit prices without logging on to the web site guys.

    Thanks for your reply Helena.

Well, I hope they do change it, because I can't see why it makes any difference whether you have an online account or not when wanting to view unit prices. I am a customer too, and need to check them sometimes. It's abit discriminatory I think. I obviously don't want to do a quote as an existing customer.

  • Hi All,

I've been with Utility Warehouse for 10 years now and have always found them to be fab and cheap - I know I'm biased having been with them for so long but for example we pay (budget plan) £55/m for gas and leccy (4 bed terraced house) so they are hotly competitive and don't tie you in to a contract :)

Yeah their prices go up as everyone else's do but whenever I've been tempted to wander they've still always proved cheaper. You can get 10% back after 12 months and £200 towards getting out of current contracts so it's a win win all round :)

Another one about to leave E.ON after ~6 years, can't fault the customer service but with a saving of ~£200/yr on offer from Scottish Power and my current fix ending today I can't ignore it.

It's a real shame they don't seem to have a competitive plan at the moment.

That's right, let the infidel disloyal customers run away,
so we can divide the scabs from the truly faithful.

Now we can release FixOnline 10 to EXISTING customers ONLY.

Pincher for CEO of E.On. Hire me for £1,000,000 a year and I promise to provide an endless series of cheap FixOnline tariffs.

    Secret memo to the shareholders:

When all the competitors have become bankrupt, we will have all the UK customers captive, and we can raise the prices sky high. Wink wink.

The deed is done. Just switched (via a cashback site) to Scottish power, fixed until Jan 2014, only 5% more expensive than my current e.on Tariff which expires 20/9 as opposed to the 20%+ uplift that e.on would have imposed for their next cheapest Tariff.

Also just submitted readings to e.on and requested a bill so that the final bill without discount is less painful that it may otherwise have been.

Bye e.on, I've been with you since you took over Powergen, but time to move on as I won't pay hundreds of £s a year extra for customer service which I've not really required in the last 7 years or so. I still don't understand how or why you have gone from being one of the most competitive to least competitive suppliers in a short space of time.
