Hi,
Just wanted a few things clarified by you informative lot
, last couple of days, we have been informed of new security measures they include:
Locker Searches- Apart from the random searches, where i am present, which i have no probelm with, they are now saying they can search lockers without the locker owner being present, so even if the locker has a padlock, they can forcibly remove it, is this correct? What about my personal items inside, can they look inside my wallet? What about handbags, are they going to go through my makeup etc etc.
Secondly we give our Mobiles to Security at the start of shift, they are now saying that without us being present they can turn any staff Members mobile on, to note down the IMEI and Serial Number, this is to stop theft of Company Mobiles.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The locker belongs to the company so yes they can search it but they have to have a witness present in case they are trying to plant things on people.0 -
I have been there 4 years, its a warehouse dealing with returns for a retailer, the retailer has requested these extra security measures, so they can look through my wallet etc, once they have opened my locker?0

have they said why they want to do this? If not ask! They have to have a reason why they are doing this and everyone must be treated the same if they are doing so.I have been there 4 years, its a warehouse dealing with returns for a retailer, the retailer has requested these extra security measures, so they can look through my wallet etc, once they have opened my locker?
Are they looking for stolen items? Has there been a lot of theft?0 -
One of my previous employers actually requested our IMEI numbers during our induction day (major retailer employing extra terrestrial characters in their ads), i would consider it normal to be honest. Most places have had locker searches for a number of years now, while I've never seen any take place I was always under the impression they would be supervised & certainly in another former employer it's always known that the subject was present at the time.
Security checks are nothing to be afraid of so long as they're done properly - that is unless the subject of said checks has something to hide.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
If you password your phone - which you should anyway for your own security - they will have lots of fun trying to access it without you doing it for them. I think that if there is reasonable cause to search a locker without the person being there, and it's on their property, then they could, but I suspect that it would actually be quite exceptional - if they suspect someone of theft it is in their own best interests to have the person and a witness there wherever possible. Maybe this is to cover situations where someone may have potentially stolen something and put it in their locker but is not on the premises (holiday, sickness etc)?0
