Mortgage while off sick

Hi,
Hoping someone can advise! A friend of mine was wanting to get a mortgage. He has a mortgage agreement already in place and has savings which would cover his deposit. However, he is currently signed off sick from work (though hoping to return soon) would this affect his ability to get a mortgage?
