Sale of Second Hand White Goods

Hi, hopefully I've posted this in the right place.
I need some advice. I've recently opened up a second hand "thrift" shop in my town and I'm being careful about the sale of second hand white goods (washing machines, dishwashers, etc) I have the space and I am able to get the stock, but what are the rules and regulations in regard to the re-sale of such items? Are there any checks I need to do? And do I personally need to offer a guarantee? The last thing I want is to sell something that is not above board and to get into problems by not following the procedure correctly, any advice is a great help!
