Mortgage application - their questions too simple?

Options
Hi, we are first time buyer and applying mortgage with First Direct.

After having gone through the 1st telephone interview, we received the package for application.

To our surprise, they haven't really asked many questions into depth, not even about if we are full time permanent employee or not. The documents they ask us to supply are only the payslips, P60 and bank statements.

My questions are:
1. Is it normal that they ask so little about us?
2. Will they absolutely or only likely to check with our employers for employment status? Or they could tell by information on the payslips already?
3. If yes, will they ever ask questions to our HR like if we have any maternity leave planned?
4. If they approve the mortgage, will they routinely check with employers again before completion? - Routinely or depends on each case?

Really a stressful process and this is only a start!

As long as you are being honest on the application about your situation and you are not planning for that to change any time soon - why worry about it?

They will do whatever checks they feel are required to support their lending decision.

Your payslips, P60, Bank Statements and Credit History say more then what you might think they tell.

I am pretty sure they can clear picture of your finances and employment including your financial history by just this.

The rest of the documentation are left with your solicitor to prove i.e. money laundering check. So your identity etc and deposit check will come in a little later maybe if required.

    Hope this helps.
  • I am pregnant. So far they haven't asked about it and we didn't mention it either.

But will they ask the HR about this, as they HR was already informed about my maternity leave plan?
  • Will they "routinely" contact employers for employment status check?
  • I did a FD application and found it a piece of cake. This is only stressfull because you are making it so.

They are quite thorough but nothing you can do about that so just send them what they want and forget about it.
  • So I guess nobody could answer my questions specifically...
  • I guess not. I don't think that they contacted my employer.

They also didn't ask me about my plans for children, whether we use contraception or whether I would be considering leaving it in.......

I just filled in the form, sent off what they asked for and got given a mortgage. Easy peasy.
  • OMG, they even asked so explicitly about these "personal matters"? Unbelievable...

Which year did you apply with FD, may I ask?
  • No, no, no. They didn't ask those things.

I applied late last year and suspect that the form is exactly the same.

Just fill it in, post it and stop worrying.
  • Sorry, too nervous and read wrong...

    Thank you!
