Mr Ian Hobson is not certificated to Jacobs he is self employed

I suggest you both make a freedom of information request to your council asking for a copy of the service level agreement/contract they have with JacobsI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

your welcome
very few local authority's allow a 3rd party to collect debt on their behalf
If there contract/SLA does not allow this then Jacobs have broken the Data Protection Act by passing YOUR information to a 3rd party
a bailiff collecting council tax debt does not have to have a copy of the liability orderer on his person when enforcing a debt however he/she does have to have letter from the local authority giving permission to enforce the debt on there behalf
and must be shown to the debtor if they are asked
The Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement )Regulations 1992 (Amended)

Distress 45.
(5) The person levying distress on behalf of an authority shall carry with him the written authorisation of the authority, which he shall show to the debtor if so requestedI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

I have received an email back from the council saying that they will post out the breakdown of fees to me.
I have received an email from Jacobs:
Dear Miss Ridley,
We thank you for your email, however, please contact the bailiff in charge ofyour account for a full breakdown of fees, including the explanation for them.
Mr Ian Hobson maybe contacted on 07974697436.
Failure to contact the bailiff may result in further action.
Regards
Jacobs
Do I have to phone Ian Hobson again? I have already spoke to this man 3 times and I still get no where with him.0 -
I received a letter from Jacobs Bailiffs (the 1st letter) is goes along the lines of:
.................................................. ..............................
BAILIFFS REMOVAL
AMOUNT DUE: £412.89p (In bold red lettering)
I take it you have confirmed with the council this is the amount that was passed over to Jacobs (if you haven't please phone them and ask)
I also take it this letter was delivered by royal mail
What date did you receive it
On the 7/8/12, I received a "hand delivered" letter stating that in 48 hours they would be coming to take goods.
just confirm it doesn't say notice of seizure /distress on this letter and there is no explanation as to how he arrived at this figure £588.89
and no don't phone him unless you can record the callI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

omg!!
Reading all these posts it's like my own life. I had a visit from Jacobs last week for business rates on a property that I thought had been removed from the list because it was un inhabitable. Anyway after checking it appears that this is not the case and I now need to pay £803 for empty property. I contacted the council and they agreed to let me pay this over a 12 month period as I dont have the funds. I rang the bailiff and told him to which he said it has got nothing to do with the council and I had to pay half by the end of this week and the remainder by the end of the month. I rang the council and told them and he said I have logged it down that we have allowed you 12 months. Anyway to cut a long story short I have been on medication and getting councilling for depression because of my debts so I contacted the debt line and was basically told dont pay the bailiff pay the council. They told me to write to them and ask them to contact the bailiff and tell him that I had made arrangements to pay and also I asked them to with hold any further action from him. He added £200 onto my debt and I was told that this is not correct it should be £24.50 so I intend to get a break down of his charges. He didn't gain entry to my property but I do live in fear that I am going to be sat in my living room and he will walk in! unless my dogs get him first lol!!
Thanks to all of you for the advice that you have posted it really does help.0 -

Make a FORMAL COMPLAINT to the revenues department of your local authority with a copy sent to the CEO and Jacobs

I haven't heard anything from anyone. The bailiff in charge was due to come today to remove goods and never showed. I have been in all day with the kids in fear of him coming!0

I hate jacobs, they're making my life a living hell and I am now in a massive depression because of it. How many people do they have to terrorise until somebody strikes them off. Underhanded tactics and refusal to negotiate with people who have NOTHING!:mad::mad:0
