HI thanks for the reply!
I already get 25% reduction of council tax! Its expensive here!
I will def try quidco for car insurance and house insurance at renewal only 3 months until i need to renew car insurance. Prudential with £130 cash back seems like an excellent bet for this year! I use redex anyway-drilled into me by my dad since i could drive! The mortgage bill is for my house - a 2 bed starter home again with no scope to extend! i can remortgage in September which is what i will do, unless i sell then rent-which i dont want to do. I need to move in the next 18 months as my eldest will be 8 and as i have a girl and boy the law says they need seperate bedrooms at that age! Good old divorce!0 -
Hi there!
Well, sounds like you have certainly made a good start.
As has already been mentioned, I think the food could definitely be cut back and Old style can help here - meal planning, freezing extra meals, using a slow cooker (get one through freecycle), storecupboard challenge, etc
A cheap and fun meal to cook with the kids is pizzas.
You can either make mini pizzas using a ciabatta loaf, split into half and then cut into four pieces (=4 pizzas) or using a simple scone mix (you can buy a mix if you don't usually have flour in the cupboard, although you will find it cheaper using raw ingredients if you make them regularly - see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=378458 for more info) rolled out into a large pizza.
Then get a carton of passata (17p in Lidl) and add some dried oregano and then get the kids to spread it over the base. Cut up 3 slices of ham, a pepperami, red peppers, grate some cheese and open a small tin of sweetcorn for the kids and let them put the toppings on the pizzas themselves. If you use ciabatta, the pizzas can just be grilled, the scone mix will need cooking on a tray in the oven.
Certainly cheaper than a visit to Pizza Hut and a lot of fun too!
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Thanks for the advice - i am currently in the process of running down my cupboards before buying new 'stock'! I am about to get on a cookery course at college - as i have hit a 'no idea what to do' type barrier when it comes to thinking what to cook! I have a slow cooker and have done casseroles, curries etc in there and will continue to do this and always cook in bulk and freeze it. I think i am just buying a lot more than i need to! The cookery course will also enthuse me (i hope!) and get me out the house!! I have an Aldi up the road in walking distance so i will have to start some trial and error on whats actually edible from there!0

www.glassesdirect.co.uk is a cheap website for glasses. I don't think they're very glamourous but they are plain and cheap. I know you've just bought some but definitely worth bearing in mind for next time. Good luck!0

See, i am stepping in the right direction!! :rotfl:0
