Homemade cleaning fluids

I tend to make my own cleaning fluids up as it works out much cheaper. One part bleach to three parts water for example to clean the kitchen sink, and white vinegar to the bathroom taps, mirrors and glass.

I re-use bottles that previously had shop bought cleaning fluid in them, but they never last more than one bottles worth. Anyone know where I can get some cheap?

How is it that they don't last? What's going wrong with them?

Are you using spray bottles? If so, have you tried plant mister bottles? They're usually only about a quid.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Doesn't bleach dull steel surfaces?

Have a look at the The Indexed Save Zillions on Cleaning Costs Thread if it'll help any.

VinegarBook.net should come in handy as well. So far I've tried soaking my shower head in vinegar left overnight whenever it gets caked with limescale, even works better than the descaler you buy in the shops. I also use it now and again to soak things like scoures as it's reputed to have strong antibacterial properties, reduces smells as well.

Vinegar has also been cited recently as an eco-friendly urine cleaner for pets and as a weed killer. Good for using on mold as well apparently.

On VinegarBook.net you'll find a search box at the bottom of the site, use this for whatever it is you want looking up.
