Lens cleaner

Just bought some expensive varifocals. I have got some lens cleaner but am not sure whether they are safe to use, cannot see any expiry date on the bottles. I have got three lots and it is a shame to buy another bottle again I do not want to damage the expenive glasses. Cany anybody tell me whether they are ok to use or shall I buy a new bottle. Thanks

I just use wipes - Specsavers are very good, but supermarket ones are fine.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

  • I used lens wipes on my expensive varifocals for years, with good effect and no damage.

For the last few months I have been using a spot of Fairy Liquid on the lenses, rubbed in on both sides with the pads of my forefinger and thumb and rinsed off with cold water. I then dry them with a microfibre cloth. Fantastic result, cheap enough to do it every day, and no scratches or damage. I heartily recommend it!

Yup, I've been doing that for years. Any old washing up liquid will do though.

Odd. It was an optician that recommended washing up liquid to me.

As I said, I have been using it for years on coated specs and it hasn't done them any harm at all.
