How are my chances of getting a mortgage?

    If the default was already mentioned to the lender and the application is still progressing, I do not think you need to worry about it.

    Halifax is one of the most lenient high street bank.

    I think only your broker can answer this question, however if you can see a default on your file then whoever does a credit search should be able to see it as well.

    This has got to be problematic, no employment history, no deposit saved and a permanent overdraft, I certainly wouldn't be rushing to lend you money. A new build will also mean you are in negative equity from day one, would it not Have been better to rent, save a little after paying off debts and then look for a house?
