johnllew, After subscribing, I received a confirmation email. Below is an extract of the email.

Your start issue is: 12 05 2005
We will take your first direct debit payment on 21/04/2005
The payment schedule will be:
1 payments of £ 1.00 to be taken every 1 Months

thereafter payments of £ 11.50 to be taken every 6 Months

If they want cancellation after 3 issues, according to the above, that makes it after 12/07/2005 and dd payment on 21/06/2005 which results in 3 payments of £1 each.
Do you agree with that and can you tell me if your info that you rec'd in your email was the same?

Regards,

uf

Urban Fox,

Do you have an online bank account? If you do, you can cancel your DD online, as soon as the first payment is taken.

No - it's a fortnightly magazine. The £1 DD is drawn first; that presumably will cover you for the first 3 fortnightly mags before the second DD for £11.50 covering the next 6 months. You just cancel before the second DD is drawn; I imagine you could cancel straight after the first £1 DD is drawn as they're contractually obliged to let you have the first 3 mags once you've paid your £1.

Sorry, i forgot to tick the box

after filling the direct debit form, all i got is this

Magazine: ComputeractiveSource Code: 7304Subscription Term: 713 DIRECT DEBIT @ £1.00Subscription Type: New

I have a penknife pretty much identical to that. It is of the same quality as something out of a christmas cracker, and I would estimate the worth to be between 50p and 99p.

It is ok to file you nails with and not much else. (IMHO)

If, as advertised, it's a Victorinox, it's worth a lot more than 50p!! The wholesale price is £5.00 + VAT, with a retail of £9.99!

Looks like you ticked the box for more than one person using your bank a/c, so each account holder has to sign the mandate and send it back through the post.

Had the knife delivered today, and it is the Escort model worth around £5.99 and definitely an original Victorinox.

I too rec'd mine today. It came on its own in a jiffy bag. As my payment is not withdrawn 'till 21/04/05 can I go ahead and cancel the payment now?

Yes, got mine too - handy for my wife's handbag. I believe that cancelling would mean reneging on your side of the contract, but can't imagine they'd do anything about it.
