Binoculars in Olympic Stadium

For those of you who have been to the athletics, do you think it would be best to take binoculars?

Not sure how much is shown on the big screens (I'm behind one of them so will be looking right to the opposite end of the stadium) and how well you can see everything going on.

Think I'm on row 51 behind where the big screen / olympic torch is.

Thanks

I was in row 70 at the cauldron end could see the screen at the other end ok but the infield displays (on those little triangles next to each event) were harder to read. We could see the things at our end and the race track easily but, as there are always several events going on at once, I wished I had binoculars to see some of the action at the other end as the high jump was down there. Also it was a bit annoying as they put the discus scores on the screen at our end and the high jump ones on the screen at the other end so we could only see the high jump ones and it was really hard to follow the discus competition even though it was really close to us.

I'm in a similar position, and I'm taking a pair of binoculars with us.

I've taken binoculars to every Olympic Games event, regardless of where my seat was. I've enjoyed scanning the rows for VIP's and the GB athletes who are watching their team mates.

It's been interesting to see up close how certain VIP's such as *cough* Princess Anne don't bother to applaud performances.:p:(

Also, I wondered why William and Kate who were sat in the Olympic Stadium on Super Saturday.........but they left before the 3 x GB gold medal winning events.

Anyway, some of the things I've enjoyed looking at through my binoculars:

The remote controlled cars carrying the discus and javelin on the field.:D
The constantly shaking and jittery legs of Beth Tweddle as she sat and waited to do her uneven bars gymnastics routine.
The GB athletes waiting to watch their team mate Rebecca Adlington swim her 800m bronze medal event............wearing funny face masks.
Watching Matt Baker (a long way away from me) interviewing Olga Korbut on live television.

Olga Korbut and gymnastics is the main reason why I wanted to get tickets for the Olympic Games, so it was wonderful to know that she was there watching the gymnastics.:T

I'm going to the swimming and now quite fancy a pair too. Never owned such a thing before - stupid question but where can I buy binocs??

Have to admin, I nearly got paralympic tickets for athletics, but someone at work told me the seats are just so far away, they really didn't feel part of the action...?? I heard they will make the seats closer if it become a footie ground.

the whole top tier of the Olympic stadium can be removed when it becomes a football stadium.
I got my binoculars from Amazon (10x50 ones) - they cost around £12 including postage and I've been practising with them today lol.

I sold a pair on E*ay and looked at the buyers purchases. They had bought about 50 pairs altogether for around £5 or less. I wonder what they did with them?

Happy to have my £5.20 and them out of the way.

aims for 2014 - grow more fruit and veg, declutter

no i don't think so - if you're in the gods there you're really high up and away from the pool action.

I posted earlier in this thread to say that I took my binoculars to the Aquatic Centre and enjoyed looking at the masks the GB team mates wore as they watched Rebecca Adlington.

    I don't think I'm weird and I'm not a stalker.:p
