Hmm.... You weren't doing some freelance work a month or two ago for Natwest, were you, helping program some upgrades for their systems? Is that why your business became insolvent???:)

I usually get irritated by off topic stuff but the IT flavour is rocking my boat, and the nonsense deserves the following . . .

I'm 52, living at home, no job but many years IT experience. I've written thousands of lines of COBOL in my day.

    PM job offers, please :)

Think the replies to this are quite unjustified. The bank gave me the overdraft based on my businesses cashflow, the initial overdraft was only for £2,000~.

I'm a very experienced programmer/web developer, with many years of experience working for some huge companies. But that is irrelevant.

I just came on here to ask for a bit of help. My company is insolvent due to some problems with our main sales channel which was out of my control.

Like the way it says that I lost the business due to no fault of my own - who's fault was it then?

    Occasionally debtors who don't pay!

  • If you're 21 then you probably don't have "many" years experience and certainly wouldn't be considered "experienced" within the industry.

People that I would consider "experienced" would have more years in IT than you have had in your life.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

Not necessarily. I'm still reasonably young, and have spent over 50,000 hours in the specific industry I'm in, over the past 10 years, in 2 countries.

50,000 hours is the equivalent of me working the 9-5 since I was 4, even though I didn't start until I was 19.

50,000 hours over 2 years (19 - 21) equals over 400 hours a week. There are only a 168 hours in a week, so either you are telling porkies or living on planet Zorg where the days are much longer.

He did say 10 years not 2 thats 80 hours a week I think, which is a hell of a lot. Probably to much in fact so 50% of those hours wont have been that productive IMO

I read it as two years from age 19 - 21. Do you think he's claiming that he started work at 11 years old, then? 80 hours a week from age 11 - 21? How did he fit in his school work?

The 50000 hours poster isnt the OP so isnt claiming hes 21. Hes at least 29 as he says hes had 10 years experience and started at 19.
