Hi
My boyfriend and I have finally managed to get ourselves sorted out finacially - well, we're well on our way. Should have paid off the last of the credit card debt of 10k we built up by April. We are planning on building up a few thousand over the next 6 months and trying to get a mortgage to get our first place.
The thing is I really would like to speak to a financial expert to get their advise on what we will be able to afford and borrow etc, so I can plan now.
Firstly, I was wondering, can you actually meet with a mortgage advisor months before you intend on buying anything? Also, how do you find someone to speak to? I was thinking that any bank I walk into our only going to offer me advise about what their policies are and base everything around what products their bank offers, is this a correct assumption?
Can anyone recommend someone to speak to at all?? Any help in this extremely confusing area would be much appreciated.

You probably dont need an IFA at this stage but a whole of market mortgage adviser (some IFAs do both roles, some dont). Most towns have a number of whole of market/independent mortgage advisers.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
