Hi keaskin
First thing you need to do is find out what height suits you as you will be using a lot and you need to be comfortable otherwise total waste of money.
I am 6ft 2 and do Bowen Technique and bought my couch from a place in Coventry about 8 years ago.
I bought it and it was too high but I knew I could cut it down.
I bought aluminuim but was given a good quality wooden couch a year later.
Check its solid, you may be good as a therapist but if the table doesn't feel safe you loose customers in more ways than one
Also try the weight as carrying and manoevering can be difficult for smaller people I guess.
one suggestion is to put the carrier on wheels.
I paid £125 for mine which was reduced but as I say don't cut corners as you will regret it.
It is worth looking for 2nd hand in the local papers and possibly ebay.
If I can be help please contact me
and all the best in your work0 -
Thanks for reply Marklefty, i am only 5 foot so think height of tables will be okay its the weight ,i need lightweight one and your idea of one with wheels is ideal ,never tried ebay and would like to be able to try lifting one before i buy but if i cant get one elsware will have to take a chance on ebay.
someone said they thought cosco had one but long journey from were i live so need to know if they do have them and details of price ect if anyone does know.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

It is not because I am tall causes the problem with the couch height.
It is your height compared with the client height, if you have to reach, lean or stretch it can make you uncomfortable. This will cause you back problems later on.
Check a couch you may of used before which feels comfortable, I think there is a body measurement I will try to locate it on the web and post later.
I haven't seen a couch with wheels yet, maybe they do one now, but was going to put a length of wood in the bottom of the carrying bag and screw the wheels outside the bag and into the wood.
They sell these wheels in B+Q but need to be strong enough to ride the pavements.
Don't forget keep the receipts it is all tax deductable0 -
I just found this site with some seconds couches (Factory Seconds
These are factory seconds, stock that is not second hand but has paint chipped etc) for less than £100 but can't find this measurement, might be worth asking to recommend a height before you buy.

Do you know any details of one at coscoTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
My couch seems to be classed as the student couch, my thoughts student couch which is 2kilos lighter and no problem with minor knocks and scrapes as wood can be. Three legs for the heavier of clients, and not sure about the cable mechanisium.
See if anyone you know has used one, and don't forget to check it will fit in your car, could be a long way to push:rotfl:
I must admit that the wooden couch I have is wider by possibly the same. But so far I have not had a problem with width, but I havent used it much over the past few years as the centre I work in has couches supplied.
As to the Bowen technique, it cannot be used in conjunction with Reiki at the same time, but if you look at my site and go to links and click on the link to the ECBS there is more info about booking courses and the Bowen.
The ECBS was and as far as I am concerned superb with its ideas and ideals and has my recommendations
There is another college but never met anyone form there.0
