Exactly, so the mods dealt with it. I'm sure if further complaints are heard they will deal with those, possibly more harshly. If you don't raise these issues than nothing gets done.

Nothing did get done! Maybe nothing will be done more harshly in some way.
As I said, it's often easy to tell the cranks, but not every time and especially not for newbies who might not have seen the crank's posting history.

You appear to have a history of posting insulting remarks towards those with whom you disagree.

I certainly don't regard Thrugelmir as a crank, nor particularly a "bear" (I take it that you mean with regard to house prices with which you seem so obsessed). I don't think that I have seen him post predicting a crash, although he does point out that a crash remains a possibility given the current economic climate. Something that some on this forum will not entertain, as this would be admitting that their own get-rich-quick schemes may carry at least a small risk -as any worthwhile investment strategy will.

As an aside, if the 'bear' gang had a problem with what I posted on that thread, then why not respond on that thread? Surely thy're not so afraid of moving to a different board away from their 'backup' tag team?

Am I part of a bear "gang" in your opinion?

I don't believe that house prices WILL crash, although I do believe that it would be in the best interests of both the UK economy and our children and grandchildren if they did.

Why are the bull gang (and the bear gang for that matter) so afraid of restricting their posts to the sticky thread about house prices at the top of this board - a thread that I have never once read - so that they could be more easily ignored by those of us who want to debate the economy?

The incentive for the bank is to err on the safe side not to over egg the valuation. Always has been always will. If you want something overvalued go and see an estate agent.

not sure i agree with this - between 2000 - 2007 when lenders were desperately trying to grow their market share then the incentive was on them to just agree with whatever valuation had been agreed between buyer and seller to ensure they got the mortgage business. these days when they are able to cherry-pick to their hearts' content then they are naturally going to be more cautious.

I'm not particularly interested in house prices either and find the constant multiple threads discussing the minute movements of a particular house price index to be supremely tedious but then this is a 'Debate House Prices and the Economy' board, so the clue is in the title. If you're not interested in certain discussions then just avoid them and click on the ones you are interested in. It's not rocket science.

Yes it is a 'Debate House Prices and the Economy' board, but with a sticky thread at the top for the house prices bit.

Actually that thread was the original HP discussion from the days before this forum was created to keep people off the normal house boards. Apparently a lot of people were advising people to buy/not buy houses based not on individual circumstances but based on their own VI. Which neatly brings up back to why people should keep their personal hobby horses on this board and not pollute the other 'Pure Money' boards with opinion dressed as fact. Nice one. :)
  • That's pointless, what about your 'friend';) MrRee telling people to buy now, house prices are only going up, that's advice too

I'm sure you can see the difference between some cranky bull or cranky bear postings on the discussion forum - and the likes of brit dishing out financially disastrous advice on a house buying subforum where potential FTB's seek advice.

The sticky is named "House Price Crash Discussion Thread", which occured late '08 - early '09, so it's irrelevant now.

Is that why until recently, your posts all listed how much equity you had in your property?

I must assume that you were not interested but thought others would be.:)

Surely we are all a bit cranky on this forum board? I'm amazed some people are so easily offended.
