Anyone else keep getting bitten by insects?

The past few days I seem to be the food of insects. I have 3 bites on my arm, 2 on my foot/ankle, 2 on my thigh, 1 on my finger and 3 on my hip. All have occurred in different places. At home in bed, on the sofa and at work (office block in central London).

Is it just because it's a warm muggy time of year that I'm getting bitten? I applied insect repellent but I still got bit!

I think first thing I'll do is wash my bedding, but I've only discovered 2 of the bites when in bed. I do have a gap in my window where bugs could come in, and our house is known to have spiders, but I dont know if its spiders or other things biting me! I have 2 double bites f you like. 2 bites next to each other on 2 different parts of my body.

I thought it was because I had a flowy top on in Hyde Park the other day and my jeans were quite low so a flying bug might have been trapped in my top and had a few snacks whilst it was there!

If I wake up with another bite mark I wont be happy!

I've had to have antibiotics after I got a bite one night the other week. I wasn't working that night but worked the next 3 nights and got eaten alive at work too. Thankfully, I only had the one septic bite.
Heaven only knows what has made them come at me so badly!

I seem to attract mossies like flies to honey. I'm told that taking a garlic supplement each day deters them. I've yet to try it (I keep forgetting).

But other than that, and insect repellant, there isn't much you can do. I feel your pain though. I woke up on Monday morning with 5 mossie bites! That'll teach me for leaving the window open on a hot night!

I was told that taking brewers yeast deters nibbling insects. I am also regularly on the menu for insects, I once spent an hour picking runner beans - which resulted in 120+ bites!

I've done a reasonable job of avoiding them so far this year... after reading euronorris's post, that might be because I'm eating tons of garlic at the moment.

  • the insects seem to be more aggressive this year!
I get an appalling reaction to any bite, if I'm bitten (for example on my leg) my lower leg and foot will swell up instantly; I'll need antihistamines (got a permanent stock of them in) have been sent to hospital on occasion for treatment.

I douse myself in insect repellent (Citronella is the new fragrance, dahling ;) ) and cover up, long sleeves, long trousers etc but I have also been bitten through jeans, actually saw the cheeky blighter on my leg and thwacked him away but he had already done his stuff.

I've read about the powers of garlic but never tried it.

I get bitten more in this country than abroad. No idea why as usually there's more mozzie-type's around abroad.

Just about to spray my bedroom and bed with citronella again - I got three mozzie bites on one foot last night, so painful.

I have been feeling quite unwell the last few days. I'm beginning to think it might be because of all my bites. I agree they seem really vicious this year.

When the bites occur and when you discover them will likely be separated by some hours. Since most of the bites are under your clothing there is a chance they are occurring whilst you are in bed or as you say wearing a flowing top in a park. Do you have any pets or have you been away overnight in the last few months?

So glad I'm not the only one!!

The last 2 days I've been bitten like mad :(. I do sleep with the windows open as it's too hot, but never been bitten before like this.

Going to invest in some citronella today!
