Muesli Confuse Me.. (sorry)

Bought my OH some Dorset Cereals muesli in Lidl on offer recently and to my surprise, he loved it.
My father always ate muesli in summer and porridge in winter and to me it all looks like horse feed, so I'm a complete muesli novice and OH hadn't eaten it before either because he thought it was for hippies.
What do I look for ? I'm presuming no added sugar but what else ? Is there a way of telling whether it's a good one or not by looking at the ingredients ie if it has more of X than Y ?
Any recommendations please ? OH will eat any nut but almonds. What about own brands, are they any good ?
Thanks very much and apologies for the bad rhyme x

Why not just buy the one he liked?
I was the same with porridge until just recently - I tried the organic fat flakes and by heck, they are gorgeous! With some fresh cream and a little fresh home grown fruit or home made jam it's amazing. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
I go for one with a higher ratio of other stuff to cereals - i like the 'mid range' aldi one - it has oats and barley flakes but over 50% nuts and no added sugar. I don't like much fruit in mine so tend to avoid the 'tropical' type ones. I am bit fussy and pick the pecnas out - i like them but only in sweet things so i save them for baking!
The alternative is to buy the ingredients and mix to your own tastes....i've done this before but its not especially money saving and a bit of a faffPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

OH is one of those people who has to have a choice of breakfast cereals both at home and in the office ( he does stay at work sometimes and spent last week there because of Olympics). I eat eggs, eggs or..eggs.
My mother suggested making own muesli but when I started working out prices it wasn't actually cheaper, since I can't buy stuff by the tonne like factories !
Yes yes rachbc nut ratios and that sort of thing would be helpful0 -
Hi, we like the Goody musli from Lidl. We pick the no added sugar one, it has raisins, roasted hazelnuts and almonds and crisp wheat flakes and rolled oats. I know your OH doesn't like almonds but they are sliced and you could easily pick them out.
A 750g box is £1.09 but sometimes on a special at 99p.

i chucked the box as i keep mine in a tupperware but so can;t check for sure or even give the name it was def more than 50% nuts/ seeds which oddly was more than the pricier range - Aldi's copy of Dorset Cereal. think this was less than £2 for 750g and was 'luxury muesli' or somesuch Avoid the 'swiss style' as they have added sugar and also whey powder (lots of lactose).People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

sugar may not be a heathly ingredients but does make it taste so much better.0

My DH loves this one from Lidl
They do one in a green bag too with more dried/crystallised fruit in it. It's about £1.69 a bag and has won awards (Good Housekeepng or Which or similar). It's not the cheapest (or probably the healthiest) but it's yummy!0 -

That is too fancy for us
We prefer the one without the crystallised fruit
as it makes it too sweet.
I got the lidl email through today, and the amount
of award winning food they have now is unreal.0 -
Have a look at The Food Doctor brand, they also do a fab healthy porridge too!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
