Wooden Dolls House for a boy

My 3 year old son has fallen in love with our next door neighbours dolls house so much so that I think he is going to live with them! Its plain wood colour with modern furniture and people - think it has attic rooms and a basement.
I've looked online for a suitable one but seem inundated with pink and pretty ones - it needs to be sturdy and not a 'display only' toy. I have found Pintoy, Plantoy and John Crane but they are terribly expensive for an empty house so I am now trawling ebay. Does anyone have any alternative recommendations?
I'm in no hurry to buy as its not his birthday until November but realise that prices will be increasing the closer to Christmas we get.

Hi I've seen the sort of thing you're looking for on both ebay and amazon and they're reasonably priced too.
I'm sure your little one would love them.
sorry I can't post links0 -
Early learning Centre used to do one, they can be picked up second hand off ebay, and i'm sure Asda had one last year.0

Early learning do a wooden fire station its huge and similar to dolls house. There is always a 20% code and often they will reduce Oct time. x0

What about a Farm? Might hold his interest for a bit longer, has had more longevity than the house (it has with my girls) I picked up an old ELC one at my local NCT sale.0

Thank you for all the ideas at the moment the jury is still out and my purse is firmly closed in my pocket. If I am honest he doesnt really need any more toys but I know he would love any of the things that everyone has recommended.
I'm off to a car boot sale on Sunday so you never know what I may come back with. I did see an ELC farm a couple of weeks ago but couldnt tell if all the bits were there (bargain price of £10.00) and last week at a table top sale I saw an old plastic dolls house with loads of furniture but decided it was too pretty and delicate for my two (again a bargain price of £10.00 and when I hesitated she reduced it to £8.00). Third time lucky maybe.......0 -
How about changing the front of the house to a castle, Hogwarts perhaps ?

My son had a Little Tykes plastic dolls house when he was small. He absolutely adored it because many of the equipment pieces and furniture were copies of the full sized items, like the Cosy Coupe Car. His friends loved it too and it was only when he went to school he decided it was "too girly" and asked me to out it away. Two years later it came down from the loft for his two year old sister and he was straight in there playing with it again on the pretence of setting it up for his sister. He had castles and lego and all the usual boy stuff as well btw but it was amazing how many of the Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers ended up in the dolls' house for a bit of variety.
He's now nearly 16 and a lumbering six foot tall rugby prop. He still likes to have a sneaky look at his sister's big Playmobil dolls house. And why not?Val.0 -
