Pick-up/Drop-off at Edinburgh Airport

Can any one help with info on this?
We are picking up relatives there next Thursday evening and will be driving over from Glasgow, so keeping tabs on flight arrival times is difficult.
I have looked on the airport website and can see that actual parking costs are horrendous, but have found the £1 Drop-off facility, which presumably can also be used for picking up?
I also see that there is free Drop-off and Pick-up at the long stay car park, and a shuttle bus from there to the terminal.
Plan A.....drop off OH at the terminal to meet the travellers while I go and wait at Long Stay area, they all take bus to there.
Plan B.....go to free drop-off area, OH takes bus to terminal and meets travellers, they all take bus back.
Plan C.......drop off OH at terminal to meet travellers, OH and travellers to go to £1 drop-off and ring me to say they are waiting. I find somewhere outside the airport to wait till they ring.
Questions.....
1. Is there a stopping place near the terminal, to chuck OH out, or is stopping permitted only at the £1 drop-off area?
2. Is the shuttle bus to/from long stay free?
3. Can anyone use it (like OH) ? Or do you need to be actually travelling and show tickets?
4. Where at the terminal do we find this bus?
5. How long are you allowed to stop in this free area at the long stay car park?
6. How do I access it? Is it well signed? Where do we find the bus there?
7. Is there anywhere not too far away (couple of miles maybe) where I could go to wait if there is a short time limit at the free drop-off area?
( At Glasgow Airport, there is a small industrial park quite close which is deserted in the evening and I go there to wait till he rings me to say he is ready to be picked up.)
Have only been once, several years back, to pick OH up at Edinburgh, hence my ignorance.
Any help with this would be great, thanks!

years since i went to the airport.
so cant really give advice
If you have a while to wait ,then the Gyle Centre isnt far away,or theres a Petrol station just up from the airport slip road for a quick stop.
probably the most practical/stress free
or go back to McDs at the Newbridge roundabout
There used to be a 1 hour car park that I used in the same circumtances

The free drop off looks easy enough to get to. you cant really miss the Hilton as you drive in and you can see where to go0 -
Good morning,
I pick up people all the time at the airport and although I live in Edinburgh, I still wouldn't go early and give them the extortionate rates for parking! This is what I would do....
Check on their website to see if they are on scheduled to arrive in time then you can work out when to leave Glasgow.
When you are nearly at the Airport, give VisitScotland at the airport call they are open until 9.30pm. They are really helpful and have screens in front of them with flight information and can tell you if its still on time.
Once their flight has landed, give them at least 20 mins to get through security before entering the airport site then park in the SHORT TERM car park (this is about £3.40 per half an hour)
Hope this helps.0 -
Thanks! Have you any knowledge of this free drop-off/pick-up area in the long-stay car park?
According to the web-site, the short stay car park is closed at present, they are directing drivers to the multi-storey one.0 -
Hi I normally get my passengers to call me once they are heading out of airport to go to the pick up point, I normally wait on the road where ADT car auctions and the entrances to the Highland show are, then drive into the multi story car park where the pick up point is load car pay £1 and drive out.
Sometimes you can also sit and wait outside the Quality Hotel just round from the airport0 -

Yes, I would agree. Just sit on the road to the airport (plenty of space) until they phone you then drive up and collect them at the £1 drop off/pick up area, which is clearly marked.
Even this charge irritates Edinburgh people!0 -
If you need somewhere free to hang around, there is the Park & Ride car park at Ingliston.
You could drop your partner just before the entrance/barriers to the pay car park (not sure if this is permitted though??) who could then walk the 5/10 mins to terminal, then go wait in the park and ride until they call you.0
