SSP grievence

Hi guys
Hopefully I've posted this in the right place, if not...Mods...I apologise!
Ok, long story short. The company I work for has had a couple of grievences go in to them about the way they calculate SSP. We work shifts so on some weeks we work 7 hours (with breaks deducted), some weeks 6.5 hours, some 6 hours and some saturdays for 5 hours. If you phone in sick and are eligible for SSP, regardless on what shift you're supposed to be working they'' calculate it as 7 hours and deduct that amount. So if it's a Saturday, you'd be working 5 hours but deducted 7 hours for SSP.
A couple of girls have put in a grievence recently (one of which I was asked to accompany them in the meeting) and the company has accepted they were in the wrong and have promised, in future, to only deduct hourly and not daily. They won't be announcing this to the company, it will just...change.
Now I want to put in a grievence myself and have them work out exactly how much I would be owed back. I'm not one to really make a fuss etc, do you think it's worth it? Would I be in the right to your knowledge? Should the company be annoucing their error to the whole company as some people could be owed a lot.

didnt know ssp was calculated on hours. thought it was days worked. i only work 5 hr shifts 3 nights (normally) and i have never had ssp deducted for any reason other than normal waiting days including normal days off. i think they divide the ssp by 7 and that gives you the daily rate which is what you get paid regardless of how long the shift.0

It sounds as though if an employee is sick for a shift, then the employer deducts 7 hours pay (irrespective of the length of shift being missed) and are paid the SSP daily rate.
i.e. if the shift is only 5 hours long they are asking if 5 hours pay should be deducted rather than 7 ?
OP - as suggested earlier, firstly ask for a copy of the company procedure on calculating sick pay (it may be that the payroll person has made a mistake?).0
