    Aaaaahhh so it was printing from a specialist 'coupon printer' piece of software... Makes sense - those custom software things are pretty terribly written by and large

    knew it was software. the printer is not going to discriminate between barcode and rest of the document. if its going to print bad, it's going to print bad consistently
