Tesco Everyday Value price hikes - Rant alert

Ok, because I am tight / frugal, I like to buy Tesco Value baby bath to decant into hand soap, pump dispensers and just to use as shower gel, bubble bath. I have grown to love this as it WAS only 11p for a 500ml bottle ( used to be 5p then 9p), until this week when it has gone up to 46p a bottle.
Value baby shampoo which was 9p a bottle is also 46p.
Now I know that I am not going to be unable to feed my family etc at this price but this sort of thing by Tesco really annoys me.
The cheapest alternative now appears to be their Value 1L shampoo at 40p.

In disgust I refused to buy neither item and also deprived Tesco of some more of my hard earned cash by putting some discretionary items back on the shelves out of principle.0

Like you I have lots of the 9p baby bath. Use it as hand wash and washing up liquid too. Am disgusted at the price hike. Is this something that they normally do, then reduce it later?
Am quite new to everday value items and quite like them. Bought their Tea Bags today and they are good. May stock up before the prices rise.0 -
I find it hard to believe that 11p would even cover the cost of the transport and plastic. I reckon when it was that low it was just loss leader gimmick pricing.
From Tesco's point of view, since sales are down and rep somewhat battered, they have to make the decision, do they encourage people who buy all the very cheapest stuff and don't make them much profit or do they aim higher ?0 -
Well somebody has to pay for all that fancy re-packaging of the old 'value' line and it's not Tesco....0

Good point, well made !0 -
Stock up on price reduced stuff like this, which doesn't go off, so that you can "tough it out" until the price comes down again. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

Could it be something to do with the 'double up' voucher campaign currently running as baby and toddler things are included in the offer?
People would think a bargain as the voucher is double without realising the price has been hiked up a lot. Tesco wouldn't resort to these tactics would they ?! (Heavy sarcasm there)0 -
I buy quite a lot of the everyday value products and compared with the normal price range, I have yet to find any difference. Even when you compare the ingredients it is puzzling, as to what is different.
In regard to pricing changing, this drives Tesco staff mad. Tesco constantly monitor what other stores are charging, changing them up and down to deliver the relevant results they want. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I also was enraged when I was this immense price rise! Also it seems that the everyday value soap which used to be priced at 11p has been discontinued altogether, with the next cheapest being Pears soap at 40p only because it is currently on offer!
Just for your information, Morrisons still do a value Baby Shampoo for 9p and I am trying to stock up on this asap before they follow Tesco's lead.
