How can you lie about your age?! I don't have my age on my CV but it's obvious how old I am referring to when my first job started - not that I would lie anyway.

I was wondering about this, too. Last couple of jobs I've had, they've expected to see my passport on day one...

I worked as in data entry for 5 years, when I left the new person had to have a degree. I got in with nothing. The admin roles in my team also needed degrees.

HR thinking they need to be the tail that wags the dog??
  • I'm sorry to hear about your situation OP. I am in a similar bind. I got a degree as a mature student, so have work experience, but not much in my actual field. I also have a baby, so I am only looking for evening/weekend/night work. Right now, I would love to get back into work and get my confidence back. Unfortunately, the only part-time jobs around here are waitressing, shops, cafes etc. All of which reject me almost instantly. Well, I say reject, but frankly I feel lucky to even get a 'no thanks' e-mail from them, usually I just get ignored. I'm smart, I work so hard and I don't mind doing less than glamorous jobs, but I just feel they look at my degree and think i'll be moving on in a few months. Agh!
