After working as a legal secretary, receptionist, temping work as a PA - I'm now working as a care assistant on £6.08 per hour. I was away from the UK from 2004 to 2010 and since coming back to this country I have found it impossible to get back into my previous role of legal secretary - agencies have told me I don't have enough legal experience (prior to 2004 i had almost 20 years of experience). I am now convinced that it's because of the gap between 2004 and 2010 and my age - 55.
I then looked around and as there is always care work advertised thought that Id find it easier to find work in this field - the fact that I hate it is besides the point - I am, at least, working and bringing in some money. I've looked at doing some sort of online course - but not sure what I should be looking at - being 55 I need to be able to get some sort of qualification quickly and at age 55 I still don't know what I want to be!!!
I was thinking of doing a degree with the OU in Health & Social Care but cant decide if this would be of any use at all - taking into account my age. I really could do what everyone's opinions.

Don't forget that with the OU, if you do one module per year, it could take 6 years before you get that degree.0
