Anyone see Wife Swap tonight?? A little TOO OS i think!

Options
did anyone else see the US episode of wife swap that was on this evening?

one family lived in the city, were fashion conscious and spent a lot of money, looks v important to them, had store bought food etc. Whereas the other family was, of course, the complete opposite, and lived on a farm, worked on the farm all day every day, their kids didnt go to school, and ate raw food especially raw meat and believed that bacteria is good for them. The wife had some good ideas, and tried to teach the other family about where their food came from, but lived a really basic life, very closed off from anyone else, and it just seemed a bit... weird?? They were Very OS and frugal (Moneysavers!) but seemed a bit to lost in their own world and brainwashed, especially the kids.
Here's an article of her typical day: http://abc.go.com/primetime/wifeswap/episode/315/manual_haigwood.html
Anyone have any thoughts on this??? From an OS point of view of course!! :)

Well animals eat their meat raw and don't seem to come to any harm. I suppose if chickens are killed and eaten immediately there is little chance for any harmful bacteria to start breeding. Mind you - those kids are going to rebel at some point!!!!!
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

I thought the whole (farm) family were insane.

    They eat rotten meat & chicken:eek: , raw & rotting eggs:eek: , sour milk:eek: , brush their teeth in butter:eek: (sometimes blue/green mouldy butter:eek: ).

Did you see the loo, it was green inside:eek: .

The kids don't go to school, but spend 10 hours per day working on the farm:eek: .

They don't appear to shower & do not clean anything in their home:eek: .

They kept nearly everything in glass jars on the sideboard, instead of the fridge. Some of that meat they were eating had been in that jar four months:eek: .

The kids cried when they were told they would eat cooked meat & use toothpaste.

I couldn't believe the "normal" man allowed the woman to give his young child raw chicken.

i couldnt believe how brainwashed the kids were. I mean, they all totally freaked out at the slightest suggestion that they didnt HAVE to live like that. they dont leave the house, they never see any other kids...they are going to grow us as recluses and would have no chance of coping in the outside world if they ever had to. Not being sent to school means they miss out on basic human learning, like other cultures and opinions, competition, success and faliure. It's a shame they will proabably never ever leave that farm and experience anything but that life. It's not their choice to live like that if they've been given no other option!

"Besides, formal schooling is often more about needless socialization than real learning." It's only needless if you plan for your children never to have friends, or relationships....how else are they going to survive in society without ever socialising with other kids!?

I know!! I couldnt believe that! That chicken could have been dangerous to his child but she pressured him into letting him eat it! If you dont think it's safe for you then dont let a child eat it for goodness sakes!!!!!!!

I didn't see this, but DH drew my attention to the write-up in the Radio Times, and like him I have to wonder how/why the farm lot got involved in this sort of program:confused: Call us cynics, but doesn't it just make for too good television? Smells of a set-up to us, just like too many of the "reality" chat shows of the past.

i agree the farm family had some strange ideas regarding their diet:confused:

but on the other hand the black hubby who couldn't take watching how a chicken is killed.

and i agree with the farmy woman about the amount of chemicals the city family uses.

i read somewhere that if we stopped eating all foods with added chemicals etc now, it would take......6 generations for our bodies to be clean:eek:

I wouldn't want to watch a chicken being killed, yes I know I eat it, but I don't want to watch it being killed & I'm loads of people would like me "cop out" on that one.

I didn't think they used an awful amount of chemicals, most homes use bleach & such cleaning products. She actually burnt herbs to purify the air, most people use aerosols, plugins ECT.

If the kids never leave the farm, they will never marry (unless each other  ), so their line can't last that long. I thought they weren't wrong about ALL their ideas, but purleeze! Raw meat is one thing - it can be done as long as it is very fresh, we ate raw beef mince (20 years ago this was) and still eat raw fish (ooh sushi!) at our house. And of course milk that is untreated sours into the most delicious drink, yum. But anything rotten is just wrong, out stomachs may have coped with it many moons ago, but no more. I cannot believe they don't get sick. Maybe we should dissect them.
