Pros and cons of a job in Jersey

A rare opportunity has occurred for a promoted post in my field of work in Jersey. It's a high salary (20-30% more than my current salary) although there is no mention of pension arrangements in the details. The post is exempt from the 5 year residency requirement.

As a higher rate tax payer this would be on the face of it quite an attractive move apart from the lovely location (not that I've been!)

Any thoughts on pros and cons, beyond the usual upheaval of moving?

Thanks

As far as I know there are tax implications - ie you will pay less!

Jersey is lovely for a holiday but if you have come from a city environment you might find it very insular. Eververybody knows everybody! This can be nice if you can fit in with this type of thing and become part of the community.

At least you know that you are less than 30 mins by plane to UK if you are visiting family or friends and flights are frequent (although often beset by spells of fog).

I have spent quite a lot of time in the Channel Islands - staying 3 or 4 days at a time over the past 12 years but have not actually lived there and (mostly) enjoyed it.

The weather is generally better than the UK which is always a plus, the island is beautiful, so I would say go for it.

I guess I need to find out more before I spend hours completing an application, such as what about housing, transport, pension arrangements, etc. as well as some further details about the job.

    I live in Jersey.

The island is very nice, countryside to beach within a few miles.

Tax wise, ITIS is now being used, tax in one year arreas. It should be 20% but you get relief on a few things (mortgage, child care etc) so it does differ, I've paid as low as 6% and no more than 15%.

Food and living costs are more expensive and as mentioned if you are used to city life then it might seem a bit quiet. An additional sales tax called GST has been added in recent years starting at 3% and currently at 5%.

Depdning on your job your employer will contribute to social security, pension and health scheme.
